1999 was the final year of the 1990s and with it came more video games.
The Dreamcast had its international launch, the Neo Geo Pocket Color was also released, giving SNK's handheld a boost against the old Game Boy by Nintendo and the then-newly released WonderSwan by Bandai, the latter of which stayed in Japan. Team Fortress 2 was announced, but went on to face multiple delays. Microsoft also released Windows 2000 to professional consumers. Pokémania was in full swing with the best selling games of the year being the first generation of Pokémon games.
There were also many, many games that were released, with Final Fantasy VIII, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater and Super Smash Bros. among the notable. The survival horror game Silent Hill is released, Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace released to polarizing reception, which also extended to its tie-in video games.
