Games released in 2020

Considered by many people as a terrible year thanks to the beginning of the global COVID-19 pandemic, 2020 still had a lot of unexpected events in the field of gaming.

There was the odd friendship between Doomguy and Isabelle due to Doom Eternal releasing the same day as Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Half-Life: Alyx was released, which was the first new Half-Life game in 13 years. Nintendo celebrated the 35th Anniversary of Super Mario Bros. with Super Mario 3D All-Stars, Super Mario Bros. 35, and Game & Watch: Super Mario Bros.. Streets of Rage 4 brought back the Streets of Rage franchise after over 25 years. Two long-awaited games, Final Fantasy VII Remake and Cyberpunk 2077 were finally released. The former received positive reviews, while the latter was met with a rather mixed reception (before later updates improved its reception). Apple began its historic three-year transition from x86 processors to Apple's own custom processors. The year was capped off with the launches of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S, though both consoles were difficult to obtain due to high demand, major supply shortages, and those damned opportunistic high-price resellers.

In other news, the video game movie curse began to break with Paramount's Sonic The Hedgehog, released to critical acclaim after a million-dollar Sonic redesign from last year.
