Time to ring in the new millenium! After the fabled Y2K bug thankfully failed to live up to expectations, Sony followed up their PlayStation video game console with the PlayStation 2 DVD player, which also happened to play games. It went on to become the best-selling video game console worldwide due to that technicality. Apple released the Mac OS X Public Beta, giving the world a taste as to what Apple had planned for the future of its computers. Microsoft releases the ill-fated Windows ME on the unsuspecting public, causing Windows 2000 to go out of its niche and receive critical acclaim.
The Sims is also released to the world after months of hype, becoming one of the best-selling Windows games of all time, and the Super Famicom received its final game release in Japan via Nintendo Power flash cartridges.
Despite what many might believe, the year 2000 is actually still part of the second millennium. Thanks to some calendar technicalities that are best described in detail elsewhere, the new millennium wouldn't actually start until the following year. But that wouldn't stop people from enjoying our actual new millenium.
