DOA2 Hardcore

This page is rather stubbly and could use some expansion.
Are you a bad enough dude to rescue this article?

To do:

  • 2 prototypes of Hardcore exist (the second being 2 days before US final). Any difference ?
    • Note: both prototypes crashes on PCSX2 without the .Pnach file on Hidden Palace but work fine on original hardware.

DOA 2 Hardcore is a PS2 port of Dead or Alive 2 with new characters and stages, as well as a myriad of tweaks and alterations to the fighting system. This was the last game in the main series to appear on a Sony platform until the release of Dead or Alive 5 12 years later.

Regional Differences#

To do:

  • Add information on the costumes and cutscenes. Also, do the JP changes apply to the PAL version?
  • Was there any changes from the PS3 PSN re-release (the version on PSN depended on your region, meaning countries got their respective version of hardcore)?

The Japanese version, which was released after the US one, made a number of additional changes and tweaks - a Turbo Speed option was added, a few more costumes and cutscenes were implemented, and an extra credits scene was added after beating Story Mode with all characters, thanking a number of Japanese gamers and websites.

Unused Moves#

  • Leon has an unused taunt where he flexes his muscles.
  • Helena has an unused taunt where poses on one leg.
  • Helena has an unused PP2P string, which is an overhead punch that ends with her in Bokuho stance. She also has an unused non-string version of the move with no associated input. This attack would later become her 214P+K in DOA5U.
  • Helena has an unused F+K move, which is a rising knee attack somewhat resembling her Bokuho 2P+K. It has two hitboxes hitting on different levels: High Punch and Mid Kick.
  • Helena has an unused BT PPPK move. It is a string version of her 9K jumping double-kick attack.
  • Helena has an unused BT 2PP move. It is a string version of her 236P multi-hit attack ending in Bokuho stance.
  • Helena has an unused Bokuho F+K move. It resembles her regular F+K attack.
  • Tengu has an unused move resembling his 7PP. Its label indicates that the input would have been 46P.
  • Leifang has an unused throw where she pulls the opponent behind her and knees them in the stomach.
  • Hayabusa has an unused throw where he suplexes the opponent.
