Unused Sprites#

These are old icons and some unused ones for the main menu. These have a lighter shade of blue compared to the actual icons in the final.

Costume and Model Oddities#

There are many oddities concerning the costumes, but note the following:

  • Every character has a monochromatic CTEST1 model, each with a filename in the format ###_CTEST1. "###" is generally a three letter ID, generally of the character's name, though some (as an heritage of previous Dead or Alive), doesn't follow this rule.
  • Though not really noticeable in-game, each character's shadow is a low-quality 3D model which barely resembles the character when it's not a generic model altogether.
  • Meshes inside the .bcmdl directory have a lot of Engrish or misspelled words, see below.
  • Kasumi's (and her clones) katana and wakizashi can be referred to interchangeably, though according to official media, it is technically a wakizashi, despite the mesh saying it's a katana.
  • RTM folder contains a file RTM_000.bcmdl, which is a dummy model.
  • A female CTEST1 model in dark blue is used by multiple characters, regardless of gender, including, but not limited to: Alpha-152, Kasumi-α (Alpha) and Donovan.
  • Adding costumes for characters for a character that never received any SpotPass costumes, whether it works or not, will cause the "A new costume was unlocked" message to display, which normally cannot be seen at all for some characters as they also lacks an unlockable costume. To do so, there is currently 2 techniques :
    • the first one (and quite frankly frighteningly stupid), replacing an existing SpotPass costume by replacing the .bcmdl, though (if it work) doing so will cause the costume to bug out (one example is the charm on Kasumi Alpha's katana extending to the middle of the stage), but still be playable regardless or not work and not showing much else outside of the message due to the careless nature of the swapping.
    • The second and much smarter technique would be to hex edit the ecb_costume_data.ecb file in the ecb folder.

The many model oddities

Kasumi#

Costumes 2 and 3 are inverted in the files. CTEST1 is sky blue. Kasumi has six costumes, four are usable under normal circumstances and two are not.

  • One is a duplicate of C1 without the wakizashi (Shrouded Moon) on the back.
  • The other is costume based on Kasumi-α, but with some slight differences: the hanging charm on the katana is colored red rather than black, the logo on the back is different, and the katana itself is slightly different. The costume is closer in design to one Kasumi's costume used in Dead or Alive 2 Ultimate. This costume is used in the first fight against Shiden in story mode but is unavailable afterward.

Alpha 152 reuses Kasumi's model but with different material and textures. CTEST1 is darker blue.

Kasumi-α (Alpha)#

Kasumi-α has her own model independent of Kasumi's, with a mesh that misspells Alpha as Alfa, just like on the Katana mesh. CTEST1 is dark blue.

Shiden#

CTEST1 is white and based on Hayate, using his meshes instead of the typical mesh0.

Ayane#

Costumes are not in order (C003 is C5, C005 is C4), C000 and 001 are two different versions of Ayane's first costume, with different mesh and textures and one is more detailed. CTEST1 is purple.

Hitomi#

Costumes are swapped, C000 is C2, C001 is C1, while C002 and 003 are in order. C002 does not have a .bacs file in the folder. CTEST1 is green with slightly longer limbs.

Leifang#

Costumes are not in order, C003 is C2 and the rest have numbers that are shifted down (C001 is C3 and C002 is C4). CTEST1 is yellow.

Kokoro#

CTEST1 is purple with a slight pink hue.

Zack#

Two folders exist: ZAK contains stuff related to his face, while ZAC is the main folder with everything else.

Donovan#

His eyes aren't on his face or mask, but on a specific part of the mesh.

Stages#

A dozen of what seem test stages exist recognizable as their names follow a T## format where ## is between 00 and 19. Most of them are a flat plain but some are of interest as they are part of stages or for other reasons:

  • Lorelei (or part of it)
  • Fallen Miyama (or part of it)
  • Kyoto in bloom (or part of it)
  • Top of the towers of the level 999 Meters
  • A flat plain but with different texture
  • The normal test stage but with a tree from Kyoto in bloom
  • The lowest level of Freedom Survivor
  • A slope test with Japanese text on it, the text in purple is not visible
  • The Danger Zone
  • Tao (or part of it)
  • The lower part of Frozen Peaks

There is also multiple other stages that doesn't follow this formatting, those test stages are different.

Other#

In ecb_costume_data.ecb, for some reasons, the first character on the list is Leon when hexediting and Zack when done in other way.
