Plenty of dummy.bin especially in voice.afs containing only:

the numerotation seems follow the number of dummy.bin .

Model and costumes Oddities#

  • Hitomi's karate gi has multiple different models with small to big changes made to the gi (like the sleeves's length) those models spans kor00-kor03 and kor 06.
  • Analysing the games file reveal that the model for the girl saying hi on the Aqua Palace stage's video is actually Hitomi.
    • This model is amongst her playable costumes meaning it could have been a costume that was meant to be unlockable.
  • The nude Kasumi with an object in the back (kas10.xpr) has a texture for said object that can never be seen.
  • Bass has an unused and unfinished costume that is a black and white recolor of his DOA2 cowboy outfit.
  • Brad Wong's C1 has unused low-resolution textures from an earlier version of the costume that had different colors.
  • Hayate's C2 Alt has unused low-resolution textures from an earlier version of the costume that had different colors.

Unused Moves#

  • Every character has an unused tag attack, which was mapped to an 8F+P+K input.
  • Leon and Helena's unused moves from DOA2 are still present in DOA3.
  • Leifang and Hayabusa's unused throws from DOA2 are still present in DOA3.
  • Hitomi has an unused taunt which resembles Ein's 22F+P+K taunt.
  • Hitomi has multiple unused moves from Ein's moveset due to their file being a modified copy of Ein.
  • Brad Wong has unused moves for rolling forwards and backwards in lying stance, and then ending still in lying stance after. (These would later get used in DOA4 as Lying 3_ and Lying 1_)
  • Brad Wong has an unused low kick move resembling his KK2K attack.
  • Brad Wong has an unused attack string consisting of an elbow attack into a high punch. No inputs associated with it.
  • Christie has an unused taunt which resembles Ein's 22F+P+K taunt.
  • Christie has an unused move which seems to be a front-facing version of her BT P+K attack.
  • Christie has an unused backturned low punch.
  • Christie has an unused double jump-kick attack. (This move would later be added to Ein in DOA5U as 214K)
  • Hayate has multiple unused moves from Hayabusa's moveset due to their file being a modified copy of Hayabusa.

Version Differences#

To do:
Compare the extensive differences between the various revisions beyond what is described below. this can be useful for comparing 3.0 to 3.1

There are three different versions of DOA3, one for each region.

  • The first release was the North American version, nicknamed version 3.0. A DOA3 Booster Disk was distributed via demo discs and the US version of Dead or Alive Ultimate to add the additional costumes from the Japanese version as well as an opening movie, though it did not come with the various gameplay tweaks from the later versions. This booster also technically exist in other regions but only as a bonus for 100% Dead or Alive 2 Ultimate, although only the installing part is available there (the difference on Kasumi's costume also apply (see just below)).
    • there is a slight difference on Kasumi's fifth costume that comes with the booster disk, it have the hair down by default while the 3.1 onward one has it in a pony tail (similar to the 4th costume)
    • This version only has English and Japanese available.
    • "Software Info" is in English and Xbox Controller Duke oval icons
    • Joysticks won't work if the analog buttons are disabled, this is changed in the next versions.
  • Next, there was the Japanese version, nicknamed version 3.1. This version made various changes to the gameplay, such as the free step dodge for better free stepping, improved opponent AI and added analog stick functionality when the analog buttons are disabled. More attacks and costumes were added as well.
    • This version adds French, German, Spanish and Italian languages.
    • "Software info" is in Japanese and the game use Xbox Controller S circle icons.
    • The costumes from the booster disk are now unlockable.
  • After 3.1 was the European version, nicknamed version 3.2. This release added more gameplay tweaks and reduced the evasion of the free step.
    • Software info is missing.
    • The game uses Xbox Controller Duke oval icons.
  • Finally, there was 3.3 which was the Korean version.
    • This revision remove Japanese.
    • Like the European version, "Software Info" is missing and this time the game uses Xbox Controller S circle icons.
