Games released in 1998

1998 marked the release of Windows 98 as well as the Japanese launch of the Sega Dreamcast. The Game Boy finally made the jump to color.

There were also many games, chief among them the critically-acclaimed Metal Gear Solid for the PlayStation, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Banjo-Kazooie for the Nintendo 64, and Half-Life for Windows. Most importantly, Pokémon finally made its western debut, kickstarting the Pokémania craze which is still going strong.

The SNES and Genesis said their farewells to the North American market, ending their epic seven-year console war with a rather anticlimactic resolution. And the Sega Saturn took its last gasps in the North American market.

No matter what system you owned, it was a big year.
