Thousand Arms

This page is rather stubbly and could use some expansion.
Are you a bad enough dude to rescue this article?

To do:

  • More regional differences (e.g. some English text in Japanese version were changed in US version)
  • Make a table comparing the enemy stat differences between JP and US versions

Thousand Arms is a game notable for mixing elements from RPG and dating sim games. It also featured an opening montage with a song sung by Ayumi Hamasaki, who was a rather famous singer in Japan at the time. You could also send away for a hybrid CD containing the game's soundtrack, wallpapers, and various outtakes from the English VA cast.

Regional Differences#

Many changes were made for the US version.

Battle#

  • Random encounter rates were reduced.
  • It's now easier to flee from battle.
  • There's now a lower chance of enemies dropping items.
  • Damashi now appears more frequently.
  • Many enemies now give out more EXP.
  • Many enemies now have more HP and are faster, but are weaker.

In the table below, instances in which a stat increased are marked in green.

Movement#

  • There’s a bug in the US version that causes the player to move in different angles just in order to enter towns/dungeons. In the Japanese version, the player only needs to move in a straight line to enter towns/dungeons.
  • The default movement was changed from walk to run.

Text/Audio#

  • Many instances of breaking the fourth wall were added to the US version's text. The Japanese version had no such text whatsoever.
  • In the prologue in the town, there’s a lot more screaming and commotion going in the background.
  • In a certain cutscene that triggers in the Town of Boyzby, the Japanese version shows the ages of the girls/women in this cutscene while the US version doesn't.

Miscellaneous#

  • A soft reset button combination was added to the US version.
  • The L1 and R1 functions are reversed.
  • There’s a girl named Kyleen that you can chat with in the Port of Hatoba. In the Japanese version, you didn’t receive anything after talking with her. In the US version, you get a Revive EX after talking with her.
