Games released in 2004

The Nintendo DS and PlayStation Portable are released; now we finally have proper/alright-looking 3D on portable consoles! The DS uses cartridges as is the norm, while the PSP uses a proprietary tiny disc format known as UMD, with movies and TV shows also being available for the system through UMD Video... the format doesn't really take off, though. World of Warcraft gets a release, becoming an MMORPG giant for years to come and still going strong to this day. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is released, which at this time becomes the best-selling game in history, and The Sims 2 becomes the sequel to the best-selling game of all time, living up to its moniker. Cave Story and Yume Nikki released as a freeware title, which sparked off the indie boom for years to come.
