The Punisher (J2ME)

A mobile game released to coincide with the 2004 Punisher film.

Unused Graphics#

This Piece1.png file from Level 4 isn't used by the game. While the picture itself is used in-game as part of the level background, this version was intended to be used for enemies to run behind (which makes no sense).

Unused Wallpaper Rewards#

There are some leftovers suggesting that the developers planned to reward players with some wallpapers, though there doesn't seem to be any way to do so in-game. Some functionality for this can be seen in the code after decompilation, but since it's very obfuscated it's hard to understand what happens.

Using memory manipulation it's possible to get to "Wallpapers" and "Available Wallpapers" screens, but they have no information besides their titles.

The array containing all the game's strings has some unused lines related to the wallpaper reward functionality:

Congratulations you've unlocked a wallpaper! Go to the Wallpapers menu in the Options menu to install it on your phone.

To download your wallpaper:||1) Go to your phone's "Applications" menu.|2) Highlight "Punisher".|3) Press the "Options" button.|4) Select "Web Page".|5) When prompted, enter the code "92024".|Alternatively, you can point your phone's browser to http://www.ingameassets.com/punisher/

Based on the above, it seems the Wallpapers menu would have been added to the Options menu (which does have enough empty space in the final game for another option), but changing the ID of the current option with memory manipulation doesn't lead to this screen.

It should also be noted that the website mentioned, "ingameassets", has no pages (let alone any related to this game) captured by webpage archival sites, which may suggest that it never actually existed to begin with.
