Hamsterball is a clone of Marble Madness with a hamster in it!
Sub-Pages#
Error Handler Text#
YOU FOUND A BUG RACE
This text appears as the name of the level in the Tournament menu screen if the game thinks you are at the 16th level or higher.
Unused Objects#
Hidden inside of the executable is some code for objects which do not appear in any levels:
START-DEBUG#
When placed inside a level and loaded in a single player mode, the game will spawn the player at this location instead of at the usual start position (named "START1-1"). This was probably used to easily test individual sections of levels.
N:WATER#
When this is placed inside a level, it appears to do nothing. However, in the code, it sets a flag to 1 and sets a timer, and when the timer runs out, the flag is reset to 0. This timer and flag do not seem to be referenced anywhere else in the code. The water was intended to be used in Dizzy Race, since an early version of the level has been shared by Raptisoft, which includes water with the "N:WATER" name.

In XMPplay, press Shift-Left/Right Arrow to skip between songs within the file.
Located inside Music.mo3 is a message on how to play the file.
There are multiple unused songs in the file.
Unused Neon Race Song Portion#
An unused portion of the Neon Race song. While unused in the game, it is used in the official soundtrack.
Hamsta Wap#
A very short song. It is not named in the Music.mo3 file, but it is named "Hamsta Wap" in the official soundtrack's Skaven 252 - Hamster Ball - Hamsterball_suite_gold.it file.
Italian Cheese#
Another unused song. Like Hamsta Wap, it is not named in the game's Music.mo3 file, but the official soundtrack's tracker file does give it the name "Italian Cheese". Skaven, the composer, has said that the song "kinda felt like Italo-pop", which is why he gave it that name.
Revision Differences#
Some time after the original game was released, three new levels were added to the game in V3.0, complete with new music tracks. These levels are Neon Race, Glass Race, and Impossible Race.
Contrary to popular belief, the "GOLD" splash text seen on some versions of the game doesn't really mean anything. There's both gold and non-gold versions of the game with the same version number that play the exact same. In fact, all the versions of the game can be considered "GOLD" versions, since there used to be a web version of the game that was considered the non-gold version, and the downloadable version was the gold version.
Some versions of the game have a letter at the end. These usually specify where the game comes from. For example, 2.0 has a 2.0.R version for RealArcade. Here is a table of all of the known letters:
Letter |
Meaning |
|---|---|
A |
ArcadeTown |
B |
Brighter Minds Media physical disk |
C |
Not sure. Used on latest version from official website. |
M |

R |
RealArcade |
Here's a list of every known version of the game. Note that the official version history inside the Readme file for the game is somewhat incorrect, since the new levels were added in V3.0, not V2.0.
