Think you know Burnout? Think again! More cars! More tracks! Crash mode! Better graphics! Burnout 2: Point of Impact is arguably the first game to truly resemble the later Burnout games, and was also the last in the series to be published by Acclaim before their bankruptcy in 2004.

This entry also marks the debut of the series' mascot, the Custom Coupe/Custom Coupe Ultimate/Kitano Hydros Techno/Green Rice Rocket from Mars.

Sub-Pages#

Unused Graphics#

File Name: FRONTEND.PS2\Beta

The Japanese version has an unused graphic which says "BETA - NOT FOR RELEASE".

File Name: frontend.dic\SkillButtons

The Xbox version has an unused graphic which says "Drift", "Oncoming", "Air", and "Burnout Chain" with an asterisk next to the buttons. Given the name, these would have been used on the Skill Records section of Track Records. The retail game simply uses text to display these category names.

Weather Condition Strings#

Fog
Wet

While the Fog and Wet weather conditions are used, these strings are not, as they cannot be manually chosen in the track selection screen.

Debug Message#

HAVENT LOADED POLICE SIREN! AWOOOGAH!AWOOOGAH!AWOOOGAH!

A debug message related to the police siren used for the police car(s).

Burnout WOW#

After the 999th boost, it will display "BURNOUT x WOW" instead of the number of burnouts performed.

Developer's Cut#

The Xbox version is subtitled as the "Developer's Cut" which features 21 new car skins, 15 more Crash mode tracks, (which totals up to 30 Crash mode tracks), and an Xbox Live online leaderboard, which was also the first use of Xbox Live in a Burnout game. The GameCube version also includes the 15 additional Crash mode tracks.

Track Textures#

Later releases changed some graphics seen around the tracks. Some changes are very minor, e.g. a few rows of pixels being invisible or different downsampling artifacts that aren't documented here, but others have some noticeable changes.
