SOMETIMES I SEE A TEXT BOX AND I JUST CAN'T HELP MYSSDFGFFDHFGDJGGFSHGDFH

This page sucks.
If you could make it suck less, that would be awesome.

To do:

  • Check the .xex in more detail to see if anything contained in it is different (achivements for example)
  • Add the files that are different
  • Compare the strings between this prototype and retail.

General Difference#

  • The game binary is configured to only run on consoles set to the European region, although that restriction can be removed with xextool.
  • This prototype has assets for Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, Swedish, and English, but only seems to allow the game to be played in French.

(Source: Hidden Palace's page notes)

  • B4Extern.pdb, B4Extern.pe and B4Extern.pmf exist at the root of the disc's files and does not exist in the retail version

Tracks and Cars#

  • There is differences on the Pveh folder (the cars) between retail 360 and prototype version when compared with winmerge. The textures are exactly identical to what's extracted with Edness's noesis plug-in in the retail version, so it does not come from the textures.
  • Similarly, tracks have the exact same problem.
    • static.dat and streamed.dat are different compared to retail on every tracks.
    • Gamedata.bgd is different on some tracks.

Attract Sequence#

  • Music start later on the prototype's attract sequence with some compression and fading in. The black screen stays for longer at the end.

Textures#

  • Gradient was changed between proto and retail for the online pause and online pause option, the rest of data folder is identical.
  • All font files are not byte for byte identical but only the Japanese one has a different .png containing the font compared to the rest which are identical to retail.

Strings#

Strings for Dutch, French and German are not identical.

  • The French strings are slightly longer, there is slightly more text at the end of prototype's and an é was added to "par consquent" which made it the correct "par conséquent".
