Games released in 2019

Cloud-based gaming was given a renaissance with the release of Google Stadia, which was followed by several contenders in later years. Another Wii U game moves to Switch, this time, the mouthful-of-a-name New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe. Kingdom Hearts III is finally released, coincidentally arriving 13 years and 7 days after Kingdom Hearts II, but that wasn't on purpose, right? Right?! Anyway, Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled made its way to consoles and was met with rave reviews, only for that goodwill to be flushed down the toilet with the post-launch addition of microtransactions. Pokémon Sword and Shield brought a new mainline Pokémon game to Switch, making Pokémon gigantic in the process (literally!), but losing a lot of Pokémon from previous games, much to the ire of fans. Finally, indies had some love, with the release of Bug Fables: The Everlasting Sapling and Pizza Game.

The Wii Shop Channel was closed on January 30, after 12 years of operation. The 3DS received its final first-party title, Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn (a remake of the Wii original), following a string of bombs for the system. Sadly, it, too, came and went with little fanfare.

Also, a movie based on Sonic the Hedgehog was released in November and-- oh, wait, that got pushed back to next year in order to redesign Sonic after the extremely poor reception of his design in the first trailer.
