Sony releases the $699.99 PlayStation 5 Pro, a new model emphasizing further graphical detail (vertical stand and disc drive sold separately), whereas Nintendo Switch releases start to wind down for the company to gear up for their next console with rumors to boot. Highlights include Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (the second in a trilogy), Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door remake, Astro Bot and Balatro.
Sega celebrated the Year of Shadow (not unlike Nintendo with a certain green plumber 11 years prior) with various media and events centered around the brooding hedgehog. One such celebration is a brand-new story attached to Sonic X Shadow Generations and there's Paramount Pictures' Sonic the Hedgehog 3, a film which is prominently centered around the character and has tie-in DLC for Generations, both of which star Keanu Reeves as the voice of Shadow.
Nintendo controversially cut the cord on Nintendo Network in April, ending 3DS and Wii U services, Microsoft shuts down the Xbox 360 store in July and Disney shuts down the DisneyNow mobile app, along with its' games. Most notoriously, Ubisoft shut down their online-exclusive title The Crew, causing mass outrage and leading to formation of the Stop Killing Games movement.
Infamously, Sony’s ambitious live service game Concord released in August and went kaput almost immediately, discontinuing sales, where not even its revival could save it.
