Astro Bot

Unused Graphic#

blueprint_test01.png (data/prein/system/hover_trace_switch)#

The PlayStation logo surrounded by green lines. The metadata suggests this was made with Adobe Photoshop CS6.

Unused Areas#

There are some unused/developer areas that can be loaded by editing the game's args.txt to contain "-lvl (level name)".

bot_character_data#

Astro Bot bot character data.png

All of the special bots in rows on a grid ground. Likely created to test if all bot costumes were working properly.

Git Commit Information#

In each update, there is a text file on the root of the game folder called debuginfo.txt. This file contains the P4 change and Git commit information tied to the version. Here are the contents of the file from game version v1.007.000:

;P4
Change 234574 on 2024/10/16 by asobi_automation04@asobuilder_h 'autobuild package files from 23'

Unused Music#

In data/prein/sound, folders for previous Astro Bot games, such as Astro's Playroom, The Playroom VR, and The Playroom still exist and have SZD files inside.

The Playroom VR Lobby Music (data/prein/sound/PlayRoom_VR/BGM/mainlobby_title_bgm.szd)#

The music for The Playroom VR's lobby/title screen.

Astro's Playroom Levels#

data/prein/astros_playroom_levels.xml has file references for levels found in Astro's Playroom. However, the levels files no longer appear to exist.

Unused Text#

To do:
Compare with final English translation

Early English translations and placeholders for some text strings can be found in data/common/text_definitions.xml.

You can change astro skin!!

An early notification message for when the player unlocks the changing room.

AERIAL GARDEN

An early name for the Sky Garden level.

ALIEN BOSS

A placeholder name for the Space Bully Nebulax boss.

BIRD BOSS
CHAMELEON BOSS
GORILLA BOSS
OCTOPUS BOSS

The rest of the bosses also have placeholder names.

Level Name Font Oddity#

The LevelNameFont.otf file in data/common/font is called "OTEditFont" when viewed in a font viewer. This is likely a leftover of the software used to create the font.

Internal Project Name#

Judging by various names in the data folder, the game's codename is Armadillo. The video file for the credits (ASTRO BOT NEXT_Credit_final.mp4) also mentions Astro Bot Next.
