Super Kirby Clash

Super Kirby Clash is a sequel to the Nintendo 3DS game, Team Kirby Clash Deluxe. Much like its predecessor, it's one of the few games by Nintendo to have microtransactions, making it feel more like a mobile game. Thankfully, it's still free.

Unused Graphics#

Dummy Screenshot#

A screenshot named DummyPicJob^o, found in RomFS\lyt\MelonMenu\JobSelect.arc.cmp. It depicts an in-development version of the role select screen, complete with dummy text and particles not found in the final game. The description for the role is as follows.

Unused Credits Screenshots#

Two unused screenshots for the normal and secret credits lie unused in two files from RomFS\gfx\StaffCredit, Screenshot.bfres.cmp and ScreenshotEX.bfres.cmp. They were directly ported over from Team Kirby Clash Deluxe. Super_Kirby_Clash_Unused_End_Credits_Shot.png

Unused Animations#

Kirby#

Kirby has two unused animations left over from Team Kirby Clash Deluxe. They show him sealing King D. Mind into the black mirror after defeating him. Super_Kirby_Clash_Unused_Kirby_Anim_1.gif

(Source: Vyroz)

Unused MSBT File#

Inside RomFS\msg\Lime\(language folder), there's an empty file called Week.msbt. In Team Kirby Clash Deluxe, this file contained the names of the days in a week, which were used in a system where the player obtained certain bonuses of various items based on the day of the week. This system was completely removed in Super Kirby Clash, but this dummied-out file persists.

Unused Debugging Features#

This game, like its predecessors, has a few debugging features found inside a its main Mint archive, located at RomFS\mint.

DebugFreeMove#

Similarly to Team Kirby Clash and Team Kirby Clash Deluxe, a debugging feature known as "DebugFreeMove" was left inside the game's main Mint archive, known as MelonStep.bin, found under RomFS/mint. The mint file contains the animation script "AnimScriptDebugFreeMove" and the state script "StateDebugFreeMove" under Scn.MelonStep.Hero.Common. When forced to load, it grants Kirby the ability to ignore collision and move around anywhere on the screen while making him invulnerable to all damage.

Unusually, the code for this state does not include all the controls that were available in Team Kirby Clash Deluxe, making it behave identically to the Team Kirby Clash version. It also does not contain any debugging messages set by the developers.

(Source: Vyroz, Konidog (recording))

DebugFriendMeteorStart#

A debug version of the starting animation that Kirby performs upon all the Friend Tablets being picked up, returning from Team Kirby Clash Deluxe. It still consists of the animation script "AnimScriptDebugFriendMeteorStart" and the state "StateDebugFriendMeteorStart". It sets the Kirbys to a certain position in stage depending on their player order. Otherwise, it presents no differences from the normal version.

Unused Music#

All music is contained in RomFS\snd\stream.

b_dedede01.dspadpcm#

"Blazing! Boss Battle" from Kirby's Return to Dream Land, used in Team Kirby Clash as a standard battle theme. This track was remixed in this game, so the original went unused most likely due to this.

sh5_DarkHeavy.dspadpcm#

"Combat Evaluation Program" from Kirby: Planet Robobot, used in Team Kirby Clash Deluxe when doing Tougher Quests. This track was also remixed in this game, so the original went unused most likely due to this.

Revision History#

Version 1.0.0#

The base game with no updates.

Version 1.0.1#

Released on September 20, 2019. It includes the following changes:

  • Four mint files found in RomFS/mint were changed:
    • App.bin
    • MelonStep.bin
    • MelonTown.bin
    • Default.bin
  • The first three files were only recompiled, but "Default.bin" was actually changed to fix a bug that prevented players from claiming 100 Gem Apples as a gift for using Nintendo Switch Online.
