Unused Graphics#

Extended Torture Scene#

The neighbor's torture scene was originally going to be longer and more graphic. In the final game it ends right as V begins cutting his victim's fingers off, however the scene was actually fully animated and continued with V striking his victim with a golf club.

Early Zero Sprites#

Early, possibly placeholder sprites of Zero. They look far cruder than the final sprites.

"I have no mouth, yet I scream when I die."

Unused Limo Prostitute Animation#

An unused sprite of the second limo prostitute girl. Here she's covered in blood and screams in reaction to something. Possibly from a removed scene in the Limo.

"Listen man, I got some fancy cameras at Studio 51. Let's bring these dumb bitches there and smash their skulls."

Early Level Select Leftovers#

interestingly, a few of the level select images seem to have minor differences compared to the final game.

For the beginning preview of "Factory". It shows the words "OCTOBER". This is a leftover graphic from the beta opening.

The "Murdower Hotel" sign is missing in the background.

In the background, there's a blue machine, a cardboard box and an unknown black object. These were removed in the final game.

This level select never made it into the final game. It seems to have been for unused level judging by the unused title set. It was however seen in the Pax East 2016 Demo, used as the icon for "Bonus levels".

Unused Enemies#

Prison Terry#

There's a prison variant of the Strong Terry enemy that goes unused. There are also animations for the protagonist drowning him in the prison toilet, implying that Prison Strong Terry was eventually replaced with Fa Yuan, as that's exactly where and how The Dragon kills him.

Scientist#

To do:
Add sprites.

An unused enemy who fires green bullets that cannot be deflected. He appears in the unused Government Lab room. Though unused in the base game, the Scientist will be featured in the upcoming DLC. (His bullets will now be deflectable, however.)

Unused Cutscene#

Watch on YouTubeIn the first version of Katana Zero. If you kill all the enemies in the final room on the first level and then return to the entrance instead of speaking to the scientist, a leftover cutscene from an earlier version of the game will play. This was removed in a later patch.

Unused Audio#

Voice Acting#

At one point in development, Askiisoft considered voice acting in Katana ZERO. This is the only remnant of it in the game files.

Secret Nintendo Switch Cheat Code#

When the speedrun mode was first added to the Switch version, alot of players reported losing there save file due to a bug in the update. In order to prevent players from having to replay the entire game again, A cheatcode was added in on May 30th, 2019 to instantly beat the game and unlock speedrun mode. This does not include getting the swords nor doing the Secret boss. To activate the cheat code, you must boot up the game and then on the Askiisoft logo, input "Y, ZR, Left dpad, Select (-), L" at the same time. The screen should flash and sound effect should play, indicating it's been activated.

Sound Test#

Using Cheat Engine to change address 02C35898 to 157 and starting a new game will allow you to access a hidden (but very primitive) sound test. This is also how you access other unused levels.
