The Quivering is a first-person horror-comedy point-and-click adventure game, and an indirect follow-up to Spud! from the same developer. It was later re-released on Steam on January 28, 2015.

Loading a new game... |
Fairly self-describing. No voice line plays when starting a new game. |
|
STAT5.RAW |
Are you sure about that? |
May have been intended as an extra confirmation for quitting the game or overwriting a save file. |
|
STAT6.RAW |
You want to stop now? |
Appears to be a variant on the quit game confirmation; the game instead uses the phrase "Do you really want to quit?". This file is only found on Disc 2's SFX folder. |

Final (MASK) |
|---|---|
|
|
|
An early version of the comedy mask exists in the ICONS folder, the main differences being the missing temples and some artefacting around the eyebrows/moustache. Additionally, the file is not stored upside-down like all the other game files, which are later flipped right-side-up during runtime.

|
|
In the ICONS folder of Disc 1 is an early version of the viewfinder, which is much smaller and thinner than the final graphic.
Fa8.bob#
Present on Disc 1. Contains a panoramic view of what appears to be an early or alternate version of the Killer Tunnel area from the Disc 2 amusement park, featuring an incomplete section on the right side.
FIN.bob#
Contains graphics that appear to be leftover assets from Spud! 1996, another game developed by the same team.

|
An early version of the transition between the kitchen and garden, dated 27/02/1997 as opposed to the final video's 08/07/1997. This early version completely lacks sound and has a red void in place of the garden.

First version of Punch & Judy hitting you. The video is completely silent and lasts longer.
u01n08kd.SMK#
A scene of Spud getting the ticket after destroying the duck shoot. In the final game you just get it without any cinematics.
N10N08JB.SMK#
By default the game uses SMK videos with a resolution of 320×128, but among the files there is a slightly longer version for a transfer that for some strange reason uses a resolution of 320×256.
quivideo.smk#
In the second part of the files, there is an empty and corrupted 0kb smk file called quivideo. Maybe it was intended to be the final video after completing the game.

FMV Transition |
Static Background |
|---|---|
|
|
|
The black and yellow portrait painting in the library has noticeable differences during the transition video K10K18A.SMK compared to its appearance during point-and-click gameplay. In the FMV, the woman has a different head shape and hairstyle, lacks detail on the shoulders, and has a more rested expression.

Old Model |
Updated Model |
|---|---|
|
|
|
In some scenes of the game Spud lacks sideburns, more commonly on Disc 1. Most of the FMVs lacking sideburns are dated between 1996 and early 1997. It appears Spud's model was updated after this period, but the developers forgot or decided against re-rendering these scenes with the new model.
I13I12A.SMK#
A corrupted video file located in the swamp assets. Deep analysis of the file reveals 2–3 frames depicting the Windows 95/98 Defragmenter icon. Its purpose is unknown, though the corruption may be the result of a bad dump.
Developer Message#
Present in SLY.ID, a plaintext file found in the game's directory.
I am a file and if you pull my ears and hurt me I will be upset and cry.
