Anti-Piracy#
The game is notorious for being largely unplayable outside of the original cartridge hardware due to requiring specific registers to be at set addresses that even high-accurate emulators do not correctly obtain. Due to this, playing the game on most emulators or flashcarts either refuse to boot properly, have the animation of Ash scrolling upward in the intro will loop endlessly, or have level graphics glitch while collision isn't placed properly, letting Pikachu continuously fall into a bottomless pit. This doesn't appear to be deliberate, and can be bypassed by patching all instances of D0 B4 AD to F0 B4 AD in the game's ROM.
These anti-piracy measures don't exist in the Genesis version.
