Hidden Version Text#

There are three known versions of this game: v03, v04 and v06. Located at the beginning of the ROM in all versions is a piece of text which shows the version number of the game:

AZTECA 1.02

AZTECA 1.03

AZTECA 1.04

You'd think they'd have the same numbers as their names, but nope! Completely different!

Hidden Copyright Text#

Located at 0x0005AB63 in all versions is some hidden copyright text:

Copyright(C)1999,2000 ARUZE corp. All Right Reserved

This text is not identical to the copyright on the title screen, since it says "Right" instead of "Rights"

Leftover Source Code#

Located just below the copyright info in all versions seems to be a list of variable names with what looks like junk data in between (which has been removed for viewing convenience). The only difference between versions is that v03 has the letter "e" before all of them. The list also ends with some code:

ARAY ANY_ CHRY BELL WMLN RPLY BAR_ V___ SEVN
ARAY ANY_ CHRY SKLL FIRE PLUM BAR_ ASVN KSVN
ARAY ANY_ CHRY BOM_ WMLN ORAG BAR_ BSVN RSVN
ARAY ANY_
ARAY ANY_ RED2 RED1 HAT_ CACT RPLY BSVN WSVN
ARAY ANY_ MAG2 MAG1 BLUE ORNG GREN YSVN RSVN
MDX-Ver:[%s]
MDX-Ver:[%s] return:%d

Then, located at 0x0005BF98 in the ROM is another segment of source code:

 UpSLAMP : Delta[] /= 2
 UpSLAMP : Play == 0 !
 UpSLAMP : Set BB (Delta[%d])
 UpSLAMP : Set RB (Delta[%d])
 SetCountPrize : Note.Total.BBMedal == 0 !
 SetCountPrize : BBcnt = %d, BnsMinMedal = %d
 SetCountPrize : Note.Total.BnsPlay == 0 !
 SetCountPrize : RBcnt = %d, BnsMinPlay = %d
 SetCountPrize : Note.Total.BnsPlay == 0 !
 SetCountPrize : BBcnt = %d, BnsMinPlay = %d
