At the beginning of the game's HDD data, a string containing the game's ID and version can be found.

Codename#

In the main CPU, offset 0x24347 in the Japanese version and 0x24099 in the American release seems to be some sort of "codename" for the game. It might be a jab at AmuseWorld's EZ2DJ series, released the year prior.

Regional Differences#

When the game was released to the American market, under the title of hiphopmania completeMIX 2, it went through several changes:

Gameplay#

• A new DIP switch setting was added, in which the gauge type in the Normal and Hard modes can be changed. It is set to "On Stage Middle" by default, which acts more or less like the Expert gauge, but with a few differences:
  • GREATs recover the gauge.
  • If the gauge is emptied out, the words "!DANGER DANGER!" flash on top of it, and if the player makes any more mistakes, the game ends. This is similar to the EXPERT+ gauge in beatmania 6thMIX, 7thMIX, and THE FINAL.
  • This setting was previously available in beatstage 5thMIX: Time to get down, the Korean release of beatmania 5thMIX.
• The Perfect Play setting was added to Expert mode, accessible by selecting the mode while holding the Effect button. It is essentially a "sudden death" modifier, in which getting anything lower than a Good results in an instant game over. Clearing a course in Perfect Play awards an Extra Stage, in which the judgements and score are tallied, but ultimately separate from the course total/overall DJ grade. Failing while in Extra Stage will still allow the ending to be played. These Extra Stages, which are all played on HARD difficulty, are as follows:

Songlist#

• None of the licensed songs from beatmania 5thMIX (ALL PRO, DO IT ALL NIGHT, FINDING A NEW WORLD, MOTIVATION, OPERATOR, THE ONLY WAY IS UP, THE RACE, TOTAL RECALL, UP ON THE FLOOR and WONDERLAND) are present. Their artist slots in the ending credits were also removed.
  • Due to this, some of the songs in certain courses had to be replaced. All difficulties are considered to be HARD unless stated otherwise.
