To do:
There's a lot of work to do, including pre-release differences and differences between the PS4 and Intergrade versions.

Final Fantasy VII Remake may be the single most divisive remake of what may be the single most divisive game in RPG history. It's so divisive, people can't even decide if this can even be considered a remake due to certain liberties the game takes compared to the original, which is made even worse because this is actually part 1 of a three-part trilogy.

Later versions for PS5, PC, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2, titled Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, were released. This version adds an extra DLC expansion titled "Episode INTERmission" starring Yuffie, a previously optional character in the original PS1 game. Naturally, this expansion was never added to the PS4 version.

The second part of the aforementioned trilogy, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, was released in 2024 for PS5.

Unused Playable Characters#

Red XIII#

To do:
Compare Red XIII's data and functionality with his fully-complete party member data in Rebirth.

Red XIII himself isn't really unused per se, since he does appear as an AI-controlled ally during some late-game sections, but, ordinarily, the player cannot ever take manual control of him. Despite this, he is coded as a playable character, and can be set as the player's currently-controlled party member via save editing.

His regular moves function normally, but he doesn't have any character-specific special abilities like the other playable characters. You also can't change his equipment due to him not showing up on the character menu.

Unused Models#

Make a subpage if we find more unused models.

Young Tseng#

Unused Music#

Early Shinra Theme#

In the demo version's files, the music bgm_ungd6_01_cut (Music/Section0) is a theme for Shinra used in a cutscene at the beginning of Chapter 10. This music was replaced with the standard Shinra theme in the final version.

Version Differences#

To do:
Add more later on as there's definitely more differences.

  • Various bug fixes.

Intergrade#

Released on the PS5 first, eventually being ported to other systems in subsequent years.

    • Finishing the DLC episode unlocks a boss fight against Weiss, accessible from the Combat Simulator only during Chapter 17.
  • Added a Photo Mode.
  • Various graphical changes (Revised lighting scheme, enhanced fog, fixed texture issues from PS4 version). PS5 and Xbox Series offer two graphics modes (to prioritize resolution or frame rate).
  • Adjusted some text (E.G., the option to choose Tifa's dress is now labeled "refined.")
  • Added an option to link to a Square Enix Members account.

Gameplay Changes#

  • Tifa's Whirling Uppercut can now chain into Overpower. Also, her Focused Strike is more susceptible to being interrupted.
  • Aerith's Ray of Judgement is less susceptible to being interrupted.
  • Unblockable attacks from enemies now show a visual red warning symbol next to their attack name.
  • Aero's stun now functions similarly to Ice, it sticks to enemies with a better guarantee of making contact, and it activates quicker.
  • Limit Breaks can grant temporary invulnerability, preventing damage until the limit animation has ended.
  • Many abilities can now be cancelled before using them.
  • Basic and special attacks can now be cancelled more consistently with blocking, dodging, abilities and spells.
