Delta Force 2

Delta Force 2 is the sequel to Delta Force, which improves on its predecessor with a selection of nineteen quick missions, two full campaigns, and an even more expansive multiplayer mode.

Demo Images#

Demo screens and a promotional contest image found in the Df2.pff file. Interestingly, one screen mentions that missions in the final game will contain heavy machine guns and grenade launchers, but no campaign or quick mission does. However, both are available to be selected in the mission editor for custom maps, and after update 1.06.14, fixed weapon emplacements were available on official NovaWorld multiplayer servers.

Tabs with a green scanline style that are reminiscent of the interface from Delta Force.

Unused Models#

Version 1.31 of the Mission Editor, which was replaced with version 1.36 a few weeks after the game's release with update 1.03.01, contains many items only selectable in the "Sub-Type" field of an existing item's properties. The following do not appear in any single-player mission or on any stock multiplayer maps.

M2 Browning Variants#

There were a bevy of M2 variants included in the Mission Editor through DF2's various updates, but the final version features only three selectable emplacements, two of which are completely different designs from the ones shown here. All have permanent static muzzle flashes. Only the sandbag M2 can be interacted with and fired.

M134 Minigun Variants#

All are static and cannot be interacted with.

Nuclear Barrels#

NUKEBRL.3DI and NUKEBRLS.3DI have models and collision, but they have no textures, so they show up invisible in-game. When destroyed, the existing BARRELX.3DI and BARRELSX.3DI are generated, respectively, which are the same models used for destroyed oil barrels. Presumably early versions of UNUKEBAR.3DI and UNUKEBS.3DI, which are fully textured and show up in a campaign mission.

Player Character Models#

Male

Female

While these models have the final in-game uniform, they are wearing the distinctive Delta Force boonie hat. These characters can be selected from the version 1.31 Mission Editor sub-type menu and placed in custom missions, but they cannot do anything and merely stand in place. Oddly, while the male character looks to be missing his torso, he appears normally from behind.

Unused Vehicles#

Poking around in DF2's 3DI files reveals vehicles that do not appear anywhere in the game, nor are they selectable in any version of the mission editor. They can only be implemented with mods.

BMP.3DI

This infantry fighting vehicle is likely a holdover from the Armored Fist series.

LRSV.3DI

An MLRS that appeared in Delta Force.

LCAC.3DI

The LCAC hovercraft was featured in promotional material for Delta Force, but never showed up in-game.

Hound Dog Briefing#

DF2BRIEF.bin shows the otherwise unseen briefing for the mission Hound Dog:

Intel reports Da'nil forces have deployed an unknown number of mobile scud launchers along Georgia's Northwestern border. These launchers pose a significant threat and must be eliminated immediately.

You are ordered to recon the area for SCUD launchers. Once identified, notify King-6 and lase the targets for artillery fire. You have a limited number of fire missions, so use them wisely. All teams rendezvous to the southwest for extraction.

U-2 overflight reveals moderate foot patrols in the region. We have also identified several Russian made ground attack helicopters. Proceed with caution.

Armored Fist 3 Mission Editor Leftovers#

TEXT.bin shows some leftovers from the Armored Fist 3 mission editor:

Error: There should only be 1 M1A2 in Platoon Group #%i for this mission type
Error: (SSN %i) is not an M1A2; Platoons with an M1A2 leader can only contain M1A2s
Error: Group 1 needs an M1A2 Leader
Error: There can not be more than 32 M1A2s in a mission

1024 x 768 Resolution#

Like its predecessor, Delta Force 2 supports 1024 x 768 resolution, but the option was removed from the in-game menu selection with update 1.04.19. It can be manually restored by editing the df2.cfg file in the game's directory.
