Rockman & Forte: Mirai Kara no Chōsensha is the only mainline Mega Man game on the WonderSwan and a Japan-exclusive sequel to the also-Japan-only Rockman & Forte. All of its music and many of its gameplay elements are directly lifted from there, though the story is actually a followup to Mega Man II: Rockman Shadow and the Dimensions have come from the future to... do unspecified evil stuff, and Rockman and Forte have to stop them, which for some reason involves making dozens of annoyingly-precise slides under low-hanging spikes.

Unused Jingle#

Selecting 019 on the Sound Test in the Option menu will play this unused jingle. It's a version of the Stage Clear jingle found in almost every Mega Man game, including (unsurprisingly) Rockman & Forte. When a stage is cleared in this game, Rockman/Forte immediately beam out after defeating a boss and this jingle doesn't play.

Unused Damage Values#

There are several damage values for bosses which go unused. This is because you cannot refight a boss after they die, so you can never use their own boss weapons against them. Another factor is that the Grey Devil is fought before you acquire any boss weapons, meaning you can only fight it with the Rock Buster or Forte Buster. Finally, Clock Men can only be fought after the first four robot masters are defeated, so their weapon (Time Switch/Time Bomb) can never be used against said bosses. However, by altering the following hex addresses from FF to a value below or including 20, you can gain access to the weapons before you are supposed to:

  • 0x03AB for Rock'n Vulcan/Forte Vulcan.
  • 0x03AC for Flame Shower/Flame Mixer.
  • 0x03AD for Barrier Wind/Forte Cyclone.
  • 0x03AE for Doppel Crash/Doppler Attack.
  • 0x03AF for Time Switch/Time Bomb.

Also, by hovering over an empty item slot and changing the value of 0x0756 from 0 to 1, we can activate items in the first level, and therefore before we would gain access to them through the shop. Selecting the third and fourth slots will give you Tango and Beat respectively when playing as Rockman, which can both deal damage to enemies.

Disappointingly, all the unused damage values are identical to the used ones, and this is because all bosses were given the same damage chart. It is still significant that they were programmed but went unused, but if you were hoping for something like how Metal Man reacts to Metal Blade in Mega Man 2... sorry. In the tables below, every value in red goes unused:

It is worth noting that Time Switch/Bomb doesn't deal damage to any boss, but it does freeze every boss.

Incorrect Graphics#

In the prologue, a portrait of R-Shadow is shown when he is talking to Rockman and Forte. This portrait actually has a tile misplaced on it, on the right side of his head, and the intended version can be constructed as seen below:
