Mega Man Battle Chip Challenge

Mega Man Battle Chip Challenge is a spinoff of the main Battle Network titles. The battle system was a major deviation from the main games, which did not go over well with fans.

Unused Emblem#

There is a MegaMan.EXE emblem with washed out colors in the game's data. This sprite was used in earlier builds of the game before being swapped out for a fancier background.

Regional Differences#

Title Screen#

Japan

North America

Europe

The logo got a different design in the North American title screen, and the background text was changed from Rockman.EXE to MegaMan BCC. As with other games, the European version was updated to feature the European logo.

Data Registration#

Japan

North America

The data registration has two differences:

  • Besides the Roman alphabet, the Japanese Entry Name also has katakana symbols.
  • For some reason, the international Navi Code entry changed the vowels by symbols. This was possibly done to avoid real words appearing and/or to reduce confusion between I/1 and O/0.

Any international data can be entered in the Japanese version (replacing the Navi Code symbols with the corresponding vowels), but Japanese entries with katakana names can't be used in other versions.

Normal Navi V5#

In Japan, the Normal Navi V5 Navi Chip can only be obtained by first obtaining it in the game's WonderSwan version, then inserting the Navi Code with that Navi in the Game Boy Advance version to gain it. This only works if the code's Entry Name is the same in both versions.

Since the WonderSwan version was not released outside Japan, international versions included an additional way to obtain the chip without that hassle, replacing KnightMan with a Normal Navi V5 in the fifth battle from Open Battle's HackersN class.
