Super Fighters S

Please elaborate.
Having more detail is always a good thing.
Specifically: Better document the 2P modes, both SGB and Link cable versions.

Careful, you'll lose an eye.

This page or section needs more images.
There's a whole lotta words here, but not enough pictures. Please fix this.
Specifically: Pictures would probably be nice too.

This needs some investigation.
Discuss ideas and findings on the talk page.
Specifically: There's probably more unused content as well, in characters, modes, etc.

Super Fighters S is a mod, of a mod, of an (official) mod, of this game, which is a port of this game's engine from another console, which was ported from this game, which to everyone's surprise, is also on yet another console.

Confused yet?

By default, the game disables the options present in the original Gameboy KOF'96 for local linked play, but can be re-enabled either by hacking, or by linking up a second Game Boy running the official KOF'96 and starting a linked game on that Game Boy, however the multiplayer support in both cases is sometimes unstable. That said, one of the options can be hovered over in the base game with the cursor, but cannot be selected.

Super Game Boy Support#

While not technically unused, per se, the game does have support for Super Game Boy, and loads in a custom border as well. However, likely due to programmer oversight or pure accident, the game forgets to toggle the SGB rendering back on, causing the game to be visually stuck at the Super Fighters S logo, although the game is technically functioning normally otherwise. Because of this, it's impractical to navigate any menus this way, let alone play a singleplayer match as a result. However, if the game was to be modified, it ends up working quite fine, albeit with the multiplayer features dummied out.

Getting to see the game lock up, however, is a journey in itself; since the cartridge hardware does a logo swapping trick to display something other than the Nintendo logo on bootup, which works on all systems but the SGB, requires the user to soft-reset their console in order to boot the game using the correct boot logo, only for it to become essentially unplayable not long afterwards.

Local 2 Player Modes#

The local SGB-enhanced multiplayer is present, and playable, but the cut down menus and broken SGB compatibility mean this mode isn't accessible by any means.

Oddities#

2 Player Mode Options#

Normally the main menu for selecting a gamemode only has two singleplayer modes, however by selecting the first option on the menu and pressing Up, the cursor will snap to two hidden and otherwise unused options for the aformentioned unused multiplayer versus modes. You can freely scroll between the options once down here, but scrolling up to the second visible option and pressing down merely causes it to wrap to the first option.

The King of Fighters '96

Hey, what's this?

In the original KOF'96, this would be the multiplayer link cable options, however unlike that game, the functionality for selecting said options is removed, rendering both the selection options completely useless, and making multiplayer versus functionality completely inaccessible without a link cable or hacking.
