Sony's third main console, the PlayStation 3 had something of a rough start when it launched in November 2006, on account of its famously high price tag (599 US dollars!) and some eccentric hardware decisions, but over time developers got the hang of it, and thanks to some high-quality exclusives (many of which have since been ported to PC) it stood tall for the better part of a decade and eventually gained a narrow 3.4 million total sales lead over the Xbox 360.
