Command-Line Arguments#

To do:

  • Custom benchmark configuration can be loaded in benchmark commands. And also document the default race settings in case if there are no config files, even default one.
  • Try to check the wipe cloud saves argument.

Please elaborate.
Having more detail is always a good thing.
Specifically: Describe how much information is logged in the log file by using -logging command argument.

Some of them are documented in game files.

Parameter

Notes

-benchmark

Runs the benchmark mode. If the session is over, the game will close. The xml which has to feature the car and location configuration can be specified. This also applies to the other benchmark arguments.

-benchmarkAttract

Runs the benchmark attract mode. If the session is over, the game will close. If there's no example_benchmark_attract.xml (also used as fallback if non-existent file is specified) the game will crash.

-demo

Runs the game into demo mode. This is pretty much the same as benchmark modes, however it doesn't close the game. As a result, a benchmark configuration file can be used. If user leaves the race, the game will softlock into infinite loading screen.

-force_dx10

Forces the game into DirectX 10 mode.

-logging

Produces a text file consisting of engine log.

-mod

Added with the Community Patch update. It is used to load the modified game files from other folder.

-noavx

Loads the non-avx (Advanced Vector Extensions) version of game (grid2.exe) even if used on the avx executable.

-safemode

Runs the game with the default settings.

-wipe_cloud_saves

Wipes the Steam cloud saves.

19

MustangIndieLapTime

This was for the achievement which would've been rewarded after setting the lap time on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway track with a Ford Mustang (Mach 1?)

24

TotalCashSpent

This was for the achievement which would've been rewarded after the player has spent a certain amount of cash in the online mode.

29

FastestOnEverySpeedTrap

This was for the achievement which would've been rewarded if the player was fastest (first) on every speed trap in the Speed Trap event (also the cut mode)

30

This was for the achievement which would've been rewarded if the player's points in the Accumulator mode (also another cut mode) are better than 2 and 3.

38

SprintDubaiColouredRx7BoostLastWin

This was for the achievement which would've been rewarded when the player wins the cut Promo event with the last boost.

39

ChicagoColouredDodge500mWin

This was for the achievement which would've been rewarded when the player wins the Promo Overtake Event 500 meters away (from the opponent?)

43

BeatUpgradedCarWithStockCarOnline

Initially the Natural Ability achievement required the player had to beat an upgraded car with a stock car before it got changed very late so that it only needs the player to win the Online Playlist event.

51

SpeedTrapScore

This would've been for an achievement that required player to have a certain score in a speed trap event.

Unused Career Championships#

The game's database has the entries for the championships which aren't used (with exception that the ID "27" is used for all of the events) and these were very likely made really early on before the final progression structure since these do not fit properly.

Unused Music#

This page or section needs more videos.
There's a whole lotta words or pictures here, but not enough videos. Please fix this.
Specifically: The gameplay of these modes with the music enabled (except the time attack and endurance though since the latter is used and former is the same as WSR events)

The logic for the music which were supposed in the Overtake and Touge are actually still working and can be reactivated by changing the music type in the event pool for the events to "inrace" which is the value used for the WSR races (and a few of elimination races). It only works on specific events the value is edited in the pool, not default (e.g. custom events).

Additionally, setting the music type for the Face Off events plays the music which was supposed to be used for the Domination mode. And also if the music type is changed in time attack events, it will just play the music at the last lap (or last sector) like the races, and Endurance will play the music within the last 60 seconds and this is used in custom events.

Unused Graphics#

Oddities#

  • The several attached replay cameras for the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X Team Orange, which is a car featured in Drift Pack DLC has motion blur which is an oversight from earlier versions of the game which had motion blur before being removed and especially the other cars like Subaru Impreza WRX STI Tomei Cusco had motion blur too in the menu video from an pre-release build, as these cars were infact made months before the DLC releases including the game's release.
  • The Endurance mode is internally called "Last Man Standing", and this was was renamed likely to avoid confusion with the elimination mode of the same name in DiRT 2.
  • The "Peak Performance" pack was originally called "Americana" pack according to several references in language files and database files (and more in earlier retail versions before the updates).
  • The "Super Modified" pack is internally called "Time Attack" pack.

Platform Differences#

  • The PlayStation 3 version of the game uses BINK 1 for the videos instead of BINK 2 which is used on Windows and Xbox 360 versions.

Regional Differences#

For some reason, Codemasters made an odd decision to release GRID 2 in Japan as Race Driver GRID 2 (with no colon).

The name change is reflected on the menu.

The name change is also reflected in its logo.
