Hyperdimension Neptunia

Unused Models#

IDs 0011 - 0012 and 0024 - 0028 in the unit directory of obj_chara.cpk contains older versions of the playable characters that are dated around January 28th 2010. The earliest assets featuring Neptune are dated to March 2010, Neptune is also not present which means some models likely date before the game shifted to Hyperdimension Neptunia. These models are either accidental leftovers from a time when that range was dedicated to the princesses, or were moved to allow for continued development while Neptune was implemented.

Red Blanc#

Unused

Used

A red version of Blanc. Alongside the obvious shift in color choices, her skin is more tan than in the final design, her hair is a slightly deeper brown and her hat is not yet properly rigged to be on her head. This was likely used to reserve space for potential playable characters who never met the mark. The textures used are likely intended for an alternative outfit as there is no known concept art depicting a red color scheme for Blanc, along with a similar color scheme being used for an alternative outfit in the final game, A red Blanc would return as her redesign in Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory. The model has textures for an early version of her book despite the idle animation being broken.

Early Vert Model#

Unused

Used

An earlier design for Vert. This model is almost 5 months older than the used model and features a different face texture where she is smiling with a more pronounced blush, along with thick black lines highlighting her Iris. Her skin is slightly more tan with a more pronounced red, and her clothing colors are darker shades of her normal color pallete. The fishnet around her chest is also dark gray instead of white and her hair is slightly less yellow. The color scheme is closer to the artbook CG where the MC walks in on her.

Early Vert Model Animations#

Watch on YouTube

The chest opening animation has earlier Vert's hands placed far lower than in the final.

In the idle animation. Earlier Vert's left hand is closer to her right hand in the ending sequence, and the walking animation has earlier Vert's arms far closer to her shoulders.

The combo ending animation features early Vert in a completely different animation compared to the final one. It's unclear as to why this animation exists despite the unused model being a dungeon version.

Early Noire#

Unused

Used

An early design for Noire dated to the 3rd or March. She features a slightly darker skin tone with more blush. Her hair and clothes are more gray and slightly blue when compared to her final model. Her face is also slightly more rough than final.

Early Blanc#

Unused

Used

Another early design for Blanc. This one is later than the Red Blanc and is the closest to the final design out of all of the characters in the ID range, it was created on the 13th of March. She also has darker skin and more prominent blush, the brown accents on her coat is a darker brown.

Early Battle UI#

HDN_Early_Battle_Hud_1.png
The battle UI seen in pre-release screenshots can still be found due to the developers changing the directory certain UI elements are loaded from mid-development.

Interestingly, this rendition is likely even older than the one in those screenshots as only Neptune, Noire, Blanc, Compa and IF are included.

HDN1_unused_piracy_disclaimer.png
Versions 1.01 and 1.02 of the Japanese version include an anti-piracy notice featuring Arfoire, the game's antagonist and piracy-based character, in the background. This would later be patched out in versions after 1.02.
