This page covers the HD remaster of Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories.
It contains some unique content compared to the original PlayStation 2 release''.

Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories HD is an HD remaster of the PlayStation 2 remake, bundled as part of Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX. Unlike some of the other games' remastered versions, there's not much changed besides upscaled textures, re-rendered cutscenes, a few different keyblade cards, and re-arranged music tracks.

It was originally exclusive to the PS3, before being ported to the PS4 as part of Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX, which then went on to be ported to other systems in subsequent years. It would also receive a cloud version exclusively for the Nintendo Switch, only for it to shut down years later due to receiving a native port, along with a Nintendo Switch 2 port as well.

Unused Graphics#

The world logo for "Deep Jungle", from the film Tarzan, can be found in the EF9999.EFF folder. No such world appears in this game, possibly due to rights issues with the Edgar Rice Burroughs company.

Test Version#

EF0905.EFF has placeholder text for the Monstro world logo, named "TEST VERSION".

Dummy#

A pretty simple white square with the word "DUMMY" on it can also be found in the same EF9999.EFF folder.

KH1Logo.pngKH1Logo2.png

EF0900.EFF contains the logo for the previous title in the same folder as the Destiny Islands world logo. Interestingly, the Olympus Coliseum world logo can also be found in this folder even though it has its own unique folder.

Unused Models#

Kingdom Hearts II Leftovers#

(NOTE: Due to current issues with the RE:COM Project Editor, several models have broken textures or meshes. This will be fixed when the tool gets updated.)

The ENEMY folder contains several leftover models from Kingdom Hearts II. Interestingly, the model of Sora in his KHII outfit was never actually used in that game. These models also have animations taken directly from their respective games.

Debug Box#

EN0900.MDL contains a red box with kanji on it, meant for debugging purposes.

Game Boy Advance Cutscene Models#

KHRECOMGBASORA.pngKHRECOMGBARIKU.pngKHRECOMGBASHADOW.png

PL1030.MDL, PL1040.MDL, and EN0300.MDL each have early models of Sora, Riku, and a Shadow, which were used for screen caps for the original Chain of Memories. While Riku and the Shadow don't have any animations, Sora does, though those are from the previous game.

Gorpus#

EN0999.MDL contains the boss Gorpus from Musashi: Samurai Legend, possibly used as a test boss.

Keyblade of Heart#

PL1140.MDL has the Keyblade of Heart, used by Riku-Ansem in Kingdom Hearts, possibly a leftover or test object from that game.

Unused Areas#

Musashi Forest#

MP220001.AZF contains the forest area from Musashi: Samurai Legend, used as a placeholder during development.

Traverse Town: Second District#

MP300004.AZF has an unused version of the second district for Traverse Town during combat. In the final game, the actual district is used instead.

Unknown Map#

MP200062.AZF contains what seems to be a village, along with stairs. It's unknown where exactly this originated from.

Unknown Tower#

MP200060.AZF features a mysterious tower on a flat plane.

Early Station of Remembrance#

MP21050.AZF contains a slightly early version of the Station of Remembrance, which has kanji on the four pillars.

Early Hollow Bastion#

KHRecomGBAMap.png

MP210008.AZF contains a early version of one of the Hollow Bastion maps with no textures but has vertex colors. The most interesting thing about the map is the doors, which are using the same exact design from the original game, indicting this was created very early into development.

Test Map: Field#

MP20002.AZF is a large green field with a small pond, possibly used for testing.

Test Map: River#

MP200003.AZF is a test map that has a river. The river, walls and boxes have kanji on them.

Test Map: Early Second District#

Lastly, MP200005.AZF has a early test map of the second district, which features nothing but a bench, a part of the roof, and the ground being neon purple.

Unused Music#

Nights of the Cursed#

The field theme for Port Royal in Kingdom Hearts II can be found in Pirates_F.vsv.

He's a Pirate#

The battle theme for the same world can be found in Pirates_B.vsv.
