Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories is a 3D remake of Chain of Memories bundled with Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix as a bonus game, and was later released separately in North America. Besides 3D graphics, there are a few additions, like you get to fight Zexion! This is the first title in the series to be developed by the Brave Fencer Musashi team in Osaka, who later became the main developer for latergamesin the series.
It later received an HD remaster alongside its prequel.
There's a few unused early portraits that are meant to be seen in the journal, most of which are using their renders taken from the previous game except for Marluxia and Zexion. It's possible that Marluxia was planned to have a journal entry during the beginning of the game before it was scrapped, alongside with Zexion having his portrait resembling the one used in Kingdom Hearts II.
CA9014.RTM contains four screenshots of a early build of the game. It shows Sora fighting some heartless on Destiny Island, with placeholder fonts for sleight techniques and breaking cards. It also features a different battle HUD, with a slightly different design for cards. The early Shadow portrait can also be seen here.

Some of the RTM files, such as CA9013.RTM, contain early designs for every nearly single card type, some of which were seen in screenshots from an early build. Interestingly, there are yellow cards, which are meant to be character portraits from the journal; each RTM file containing a journal portrait also has an accompanying graphic of a corresponding yellow card.
The game contains an unused difficulty mode called "Extreme Mode". "Extreme" is similar enough in name to the Critical Mode in KH II: Final Mix and later games in the series. Besides the unused text in the menus, there are a few gameplay differences:
Sora and Riku start with all of their end-game abilities. However, Sora cannot increase his CP (Card Points) and Riku cannot increase his AP (Attack Points) and he cannot use Dark Mode, which increases the game's overall difficulty.
Enemies deal damage equivalent to either Proud Mode or Standard Mode.
The player does not start with the Moment's Reprieve card, which will bar progression from the room synthesis tutorial.
There is no battle report after the credits, which results in the game softlocking, and it becomes impossible to unlock Reverse/Rebirth mode.
Using the codes below will allow access to Extreme Mode, along with the Moment's Reprieve card. A save editor can also be used.

Another unused difficulty mode exists, though it is very incomplete. There is no text description in the settings menu, and Sora and Riku start off with their basic abilities. In this mode, every single enemy is given extremely high HP (equivalent to a boss), which can easily be regenerated, though at the cost of not dealing any damage. Therefore, it becomes impossible to progress through the game, especially during required fights that occur throughout the story.
The code below can enable the use of this mode.

Changes from the original Japanese to International versions#
The requirements for unlocking the Keyblade attack cards based on Kingdom Hearts II are different between the Japanese and North American versions. The former requires a completed save file from Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix, while the latter, as it was released separately, only requires the player to complete Sora's story and Reverse/Rebirth story.
