This page details one or more prototype versions of Kingdom Hearts III.

In late August of 2024, a Xbox One devkit containing the Premium Showcase build of Kingdom Hearts III was found and dumped online. While it's almost identical the demo that Square Enix would release later on for consoles like the PlayStation 4 or Switch 2, there are many files that shows how incredibly unfinished the game's state was at that point, which is rather either remarkable or crazy when you take in consideration that the full game would release eight months later.

General Differences#

Leveling Up#

Premium Showcase

Final

The graphic for when receiving a level up was quite similar to what previous entries had. It's unknown why this was changed for the final game.

The Deep End#

Premium Showcase

Final

The boss theme for when fighting the Rock Titan was slightly different in the Premium Showcase build, using less instruments and being a minute shorter when compared to the final version.

Voice Clips#

Due to it being early build, many of Sora's voice clips are outright taken from Kingdom Hearts II and Dream Drop Distance as a placeholder.

Abilities#

In the Premium Showcase, Sora has access to certain abilities that isn't accessible during the Olympus section in the final game:

  • High Jump without the use of Second Form.
  • Shotlocks.
  • Access to Links, such as Wonder Balloon.
  • More HP than normally possible.
  • Fire has been upgraded to Fira.
  • Can use Aerora, Cura, and Blizzara.

Cutscenes in a unfinished state can be found in the files, three of which are are meant for Arendelle, while the last one is for Toy Box. The Arendelle cutscenes has a second video in the bottom right corner, showing clips from the Frozen film and rough sketches that usually show Sora being hazardously implemented into scene. Interestingly, the Toy Box actually uses models from Final Fantasy Versus XIII as a placeholder.

A slightly early version of the opening animation from Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep -A fragmentary passage- can be also found within the files. It's missing the Disney logo at the start and has various text on top it, including it's internal project name.
