Cut Achievement/Trophy#

An achievement called Sky High, which required you to lift 25 enemies with biotic powers off the ground, was in the game before eventually being removed from the final release for unknown reasons. It was eventually reused for Mass Effect 3 with different requirements (the difference being the number of enemies) and a different achievement image.

Cut Features/Gameplay Elements#

Mass Effect 2 originally had a combat mode similar to Mass Effect, where guns had unlimited ammo and you had to wait a few seconds before firing again if they overheated, but could reload if you needed a cooldown that very second. In the finished product, guns work as if they do not have unlimited ammo, and for all intents and purposes, the thermal clips the player can pick up serve as ammo clips, much like a standard FPS.

However, the code left over from when the combat system was similar to Mass Effect still exists in the game, and modifications to the Coalesced.ini can re-implement the code to a degree in the PC version.

This enables some guns (not all) to "regenerate" ammo, though picking up thermal clips will still work as intended for the most part.

Platform Differences#

The PS3 version shipped on one disc, eliminating the need for constant disc swapping. Additionally, it opens with an interactive comic that recounts the events of the original Mass Effect, allowing the player to make key decisions that influence Mass Effect 2's story. This was done in order to account for the fact that, at the time, the original game was not available on PS3. Additionally, the graphics were revised with lighting changes.

Revisional Differences#

  • The Steam release of the 2010 version of the game was updated (or more to put it more accurately, re-released) in order to include all previously released DLC (which previously required you to buy them on the EA launcher, then manually download and transfer them to the Steam version), and the game was moved to the EA App, designed to replace the defunct Origin platform to reportedly less-than-stellar results. The update was free for all previous owners of the 2010 version.
  • The PS3 version received an update, Version 1.04, that enabled character importing from the PS3 version of Mass Effect.
