This game/console's online features are no longer supported.
While this game/console's online features were once accessible, they are (as of October 15, 2018) no longer officially supported and online-exclusive features may be documented as now-unseen content.

Sound Shapes is a side-scrolling platformer with a twist: the coins are musical notes. The game was a launch title on the PlayStation 4 in the US and Europe.

Unused Graphics#

What looks like a generic placeholder graphic.

A placeholder for a tutorial in the PlayStation Vita version.

An early logo for the game.

Queasy Games was originally going to be credited during the initial loading screens. In the final game, Queasy Games is credited in the title screen.

Another placeholder texture.

Code Comments#

To do:
Organize this.

Unlike most other games, Sound Shapes has its readable source code in .GM (GameMonkey) files. As such, the original code comments can be seen, ranging from casual chatting with the developers to angry comments and short rants.

// i have no fucking clue why the boulder sinks into the ground
// upon spawning sometimes, but if i just warp the previous one
// away, it seems to behave better.
// obviously this is not a solution, but i don't know what else
// to do. also, i'm very tired and the game is almost due.
// something must be up with ENTITYBASE_IsTouchingSomethingThatBlocksRespawn
// which may cause weird collisions?
// but i checked it! sigh...

// i'm not sure what's up with this but i don't think using consts.yinc
// is tight to how it's printing. the values seem off leaving a little space
// at the top (between the image and the first line of text). i'm pretty
// tired and need to get moving onto other stuff so i'm going to fudge it for
// now. i checked chinese language too just to see if the offending space
// was there and it was, so i think this fudge is universal across all
// languages. however, i only tested chinese and english so very possibly wrong.

Found at line 694 in MAIN.GM. "JM" refers to Jonathan Mak, who co-created the original concept of Sound Shapes.

// calling goonline will kick you offline if you're already online due to state craziness.

//[JM]What? Screw that. If you're dumb enough to go online when you already are then tough.
//Also why care about "this.onlineState" when we already have a source of onlineline state in the online coordinator?
//It's just the same info tracked in another place and another thing to go wrong.

jon: ok
and what about the groudn gravity? the ground gravieties (all three values) onyl used if wheel is on ground?
or is it more like, if left wheel is off ground but right wheel is on ground, then use right wheel ground gravity but left wheel air gravity?

David: It's either all ground gravities or all air gravities.
The air gravities kick in if neither wheel has touched the ground for more than fTimeAirbornBeforeAirGravity ms
