This needs some investigation. |
Bakugan: Defenders of the Core is the second console title in the Bakugan series, this time based on New Vestroia, the second season of the anime (albeit taking place in an alternate timeline). After Bakugan Interspace goes haywire, your avatar gets sent to an alternate timeline where the Vexos have taken away the Resistance's ability to brawl.
The game is split into two gameplay styles: stealth stages (where you control your avatar), and the Bakugan brawls (which, unlike this game's predecessor, directly put you in control of the Bakugan itself).
Notably, none of the voice actors from the anime's English dub are present here, with a completely different cast filling their roles instead.
Platform Differences#
- The game's cutscenes are pre-rendered on PSP, rather than in-engine like the other versions. As such, it is impossible to customize the player character beyond naming him.
- This also results in all of the icons meant for the player character using a standard texture file, as opposed to the render-to-texture method.
- Visuals vary depending on the platform:
- Due to hardware constraints, the PSP version has noticeably cut-down visuals. Textures are lower-quality, the shadows are replaced with blob shadows, and various post-processing effects are missing.
- The Wii version contains most of the post-processing effects, and the visuals are higher quality than on PSP (such as having proper shadows and higher-polygonal meshes), but bloom appears to have been toned down, and normal maps are not used in this version either.
- The PS3 and Xbox 360 versions have the highest-quality visuals. While the polygonal counts appear to be the same as they were in the Wii version, bloom is more noticeable in this version, and normal maps are utilized as well.

- The FMVs for the Activision, Now Production, and Nelvana logos are replaced with static screens in the PSP version.
- When booting the game up for the first time, the PS3 version installs the game's data to the hard disk drive to speed up loading times. This feature is not present in any other version (though the Xbox 360 version can still be installed to the HDD through the dashboard).
- In the stealth sections, Drago pops out in front of the player for any tutorial messages in the console version. He doesn't do this in the PSP version.

- Most menu elements in the PSP version are 60fps. The console versions have them locked to 30fps like the rest of the game.
- Some voice lines, such as those for various tips during brawls, are omitted from the PSP version.
