Specifically: Someone with more hacking knowhow should see if it is at all possible to restore the Lost Letters campaign to a playable state. The PS4 version may possibly help here, and there's references to an editor in the game's files.

Air Conflicts: Vietnam is the sixth (and, as of this writing, final) game in the Air Conflicts series, moving the action to the Vietnam War instead of World War II. Unfortunately, in a surprisingly common trend for WW2 games not named Call of Duty: Black Ops jumping to the Cold War, this ended up seemingly killing the series due to low reviews.

The PC version after updates is based on a stripped-back version of the PlayStation 4 "Ultimate Edition" rerelease.

Lost Letters Leftovers#

Despite being removed, the PS4-exclusive "Lost Letters" campaign (following an NVA pilot) has a lot of leftovers in the PC version's files, making it clear the post-patch PC version is just the PS4 version with this campaign stripped out:

  • Air Conflicts Vietnam\media\acPCEnglish has a lot of text including the game's subtitles. The subtitles for the "Lost Letters" cutscenes are still here.
  • Air Conflicts Vietnam\media\videos has seemingly all of the pre-rendered cutscenes for Lost Letters in addition to the US campaign.
  • '"Air Conflicts Vietnam\media\voiceover_en'' still has the Lost Letters voiceovers.
  • Air Conflicts Vietnam\media\menuscreens has the actual "ELM" text files for the Lost Letters campaign.
  • Air Conflicts Vietnam\media\briefings has the Briefing images, script, and video subtitles for the Lost Letters missions.
  • Air Conflicts Vietnam\media\game\campaign has two folders: "us" which is the US missions and "new" which appear to be incomplete versions of the script files for the Lost Letters missions.

Pacific Carriers leftovers#

Various assets related to Pacific Carriers such as a Japanese flag remain in Air Conflicts Vietnam\media\loading.
