Kaettekita Mario Bros.

Kaettekita Mario Bros. is an enhanced version of the Famicom Mario Bros. that was released exclusively through the Famicom Disk Writer. It was sponsored by Nagatanien, a Japanese food company, and features advertisements for their products.

Notably, the game's "Nagatanien World" mode had a special giveaway involved: earning 100,000 or 200,000 points would display a code that could be sent in by postcard. The former awarded a Super Mario Bros. 3 trading card, while the latter entered you into a drawing to win a copy of Super Mario Bros. 3. The contest was held through May 31, 1989, and all entrants received a Super Mario Bros. 3 keyring.

While the game has not been rereleased (very likely due to the sponsor and contest elements), its name is present among a set of NES Info Tags added in Rev 1 of Doubutsu no Mori e+, suggesting that Nintendo did consider it at one point.

Unused Sprites#

One in-game advertisement features enka singer Saburo Kitajima, who starred in TV commercials for Nagatanien. One angry sprite of him is unused.

Graphics exist for some unused poses for the dancing Mario and Luigi seen on the 200,000 points screen, along with a stray tile that doesn't fully match any of their existing sprites.

Several unused tiles can be found alongside the above in the graphics for the slot machine minigame and the 200,000 points screen. These can be assembled into a front-facing sprite for Mario, sprites of him seemingly bowing and an animation of him pulling a cloth out of his pocket and waving it around, along with sprites of him waving a flag.

These sprites are incomplete as-is, and were seemingly meant to use tiles from Mario's other sprites to fill in the gaps. However, Mario and Luigi's shirt and overall colors are swapped in this version and these sprites weren't changed accordingly, so the tiles no longer match. Below are mockups of what the completed sprites would look like if this wasn't the case:

Unused Music#

This page or section needs more audio.
There's a whole lotta words here, but not enough audio. Please fix this.
Specifically: Upload.

Many of the songs in the game have variants in different keys, such as the cutscene and title themes, but these don't ever seem to be used throughout the entirety of the game.
