Nintendo Campus Challenge 1991 is a rare game used in the competition of the same name, in which players had six minutes to collect 25 coins in Super Mario Bros. 3 and score 100,000 points in PIN·BOT, with any remaining time being spent in Dr. Mario. After time expired, the player's scores in each game were tallied, with a 10× multiplier for SMB3 and a 100× multiplier for Dr. Mario.

This was the followup to Nintendo World Championships 1990, but in this case original cartridges are even rarer due to the fact that they were quickly destroyed after the event instead of being sent to the finalists.

To do:

  • Is any of the unused content from the original games present here?
  • The available ROM is likely dumped from RetroUSB.com's repro cart. Genuine cartridges need to be dumped.

Alternate Title Screen#

Startup

Alternate

Original Campus Challenge 1991 cartridges had a DIP switch which changed the title screen between the Campus Challenge logo and the Nintendo World Championships 1990 one.

The RetroUSB reproduction cartridge, meanwhile, modifies the alternate logo to "Nintendo Campus Challenge 1991". The DIP switch setting from the original cart was completely removed and by default the modified title screen appears on startup. Holding Down on Controller 2 during bootup displays the actual Campus Challenge logo.1

Timer#

Holding A when powering on the system will take you to a timer test similar to the one found in Nintendo World Championships 1990. When the timer ends, the game freezes on the "TIMEǃ" screen and the game is halted while displaying the time below.

Cheat Codes#

Holding B when powering on will skip straight to PIN·BOT. Similarly, holding Select when powering on will skip to Dr. Mario.
