This page details one or more prototype versions of Mario Party 5.

To do:

  • See if there are any more differences or even unused content in this demo.
  • File path.

A demo of Mario Party 5 was included with Interactive Multi-Game Demo Disc Version 13 and as one of the playable demos in Mario Kart: Double Dash!! Bonus Disc. This demo was built on September 12, 2003, which is almost two months before the final version. On the other hand, the menus in this build are almost identical to what was shown at E3 2003.

Additional Debugging Material#

Miscellaneous debug materials not accessible through the debug menu, but instead have to be accessed through hacking devices to see.

Memory Usage Meter#

The memory usage meter from the N64 games is back with minor changes. The box is now quite a bit smaller.

Graphical Differences#

Title Screen#

Bonus Disc Preview

Final

  • The green glow on the edges of the screen is barely visible.
  • Generally a simplistic background, with less stars and white lines across.
  • "PRESS START" uses yellow, green, and pink only as opposed to a rainbow color system. It was also positioned higher in the final.
  • The background has a star outline effect that is not present in the final.
  • The star Mario holds is slightly rotated.
  • Boo was rotated slightly and made larger.
  • Rainbow Dream was made larger.
  • Bullet Bill is at a slightly different angle.
  • The blimp on the top-right of the screen is rotated.
  • Because the star Mario is holding is rotated, Green K. Kid and the Goomba are more clearly visible.

Differences from E3 2003#

Character Select Menu#

E3 2003

Bonus Disc Preview

It uses the same one as the E3 menu found in the final's game data, except:

  • COM in the demo is called CPU.
  • Boo and Koopa Kid are now selectable.
  • Rumble feature is gone because no minigame uses it in this demo. See below.

Minigame Select Menu#

E3 2003

Bonus Disc Preview

This also uses the same one as the E3 menu found in the final's game data, only now:

  • The start and select text are now fully capitalized.
    • The colors for the aforementioned text were changed to brown.
  • There's an option to go back, something that was omitted from the E3 demo.
  • The demo has five minigames: Coney Island, Button Mashers, Shy Guy Showdown, Dinger Derby, and Pushy Penguins. The E3 demo included eight minigames. As such, the following three are now unplayable in this demo:
    • Rumble Fumble
    • Pop-Star Piranhas
    • Chomp Romp

Unused Graphic#

Final

For the button prompts, only the first letters are capitalized. Unused, as this build uses a different graphic for the start text and there's no option to practice.
