All Night Nippon: Super Mario Bros. is a promotional title designed as a tie-in with the Japanese radio show All Night Nippon, sold through a lottery system on the show as part of a contest to celebrate the show's then-upcoming 20th Anniversary.

The game is based on Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels and uses a handful of the levels from that game, with the rest coming from Super Mario Bros. with minor alterations. Some of the graphics have been altered to reference different aspects of All Night Nippon, including the Mushroom Retainers and some enemies being replaced with the program's hosts.

ANNSMB has never been rereleased (likely owing to rights issues, as NBS owns All Night Nippon and the hosts' likenesses would also need to be cleared) and just 3,040 copies were released, making it a rare collector's item.

Unused Graphics#

The logo on the title screen is a modified version of the one used in prior SMB games. The unused parts are still present.

A pair of strange tiles. One of these was present in SMB1, but the other wasn't.

A period, an apostrophe, and quotation marks, all leftovers from The Lost Levels.

A heart and a Japanese message spelling out Aho! ("Idiot!") in katakana. These graphics are unique to this game, and are not present in its predecessors.
