Luigi's Mansion for the Nintendo 3DS is a remake of the GameCube launch title with the same. Besides being in 3D, it includes couple of new features such as amiibo compatibility, a Boss Rush mode, and local co-op involving the new character named Gooigi. However despite these additions being appreciated, it's still generally regarded as inferior to the original due to worse controls, visuals, and atmosphere to boot.

Unused Graphics#

Hidden Checkerboard#

The Boo painting has a hidden transparency checkerboard-like pattern, which isn't possible to see in-game.

Unused Models#

Boneyard Stake#

Nintendo 3DS Version

GameCube Version

r11_stake_01.cmb contains a stake meant for the boneyard and goes unused in the original game as well. The model being remade seems to heavily suggest that the developers were planning to implement it into the remake, but decided not to for unknown reasons.

Dummy2#

Dummy2.cmb contains a grey triangle, likely for testing purposes. Curiously however, the models load into the game but never seen anywhere at all.

Heart Door#

Door_heart.cmb contains remnants of the unused heart door from the original game.

Unseen Training Room Wall#

The back of the wall for the Training Room is actually modeled like in the original game, but you're unable to see it normally without modifying the camera or using a model viewer. Like with the Boneyard stake, it ended up being remade as well.

Unused Audio#

Spooky Bite#

WAV_178_GUESS_BANK_LuiSe0 contains a unused line for when Luigi would be bitten by Spooky. This was carried over from the original game.

Professor E. Gadd Laughing#

WAV_251_GUESS_BANK_LuiSe0 features a unused audio line of Professor E. Gadd laughing. It was also carried over from the original game.

Unknown#

WAV_1_GUESS_BANK_LuiSe2 contains a beep-like sound. It's unknown what this audio-file was originally meant to be used for.

Unused Music#

2001 E3 Opening Theme#

WAV_0_GUESS_BANK_LuiSe2 contains the opening theme that was used for the 2001 E3 build of the original game.

Totaka's Song#

JA_BGM_QUIZ003 contains Totaka's song being played by the lovely Melody Pianissima. Like the rest, this was carried over from the original game.

Early Ringtone#

Early

Final

WAV_0_GUESS_BANK_LuiSe_ADD contains a early version of the ringtone whenever Professor E. Gadd contacts Luigi. This was likely changed in favor of having the ringtone to use the game's motif instead.

Oddities#

Invisible Furniture#

Like in the original game, there is an invisible poster on the wall of The Twins' Room that Luigi can interact with. It has no collision and cannot be scanned using the Game Boy Horror. However, an invisible object located on the Roof in the original ended up being removed. It's still there in the final boss arena, but Luigi doesn't say anything upon scanning it anymore.

Internal Project Name#

The game's internal project name is "GreenCube" according to the BSCAR file and "GreenCubeU" according to multiple strings in the executables. The name is meant to reference how the original game was on the Nintendo GameCube and that Luigi is associated with the color green.
