The Game Boy finally had its specifications boosted with the Game Boy Color, boasting a processor clocked at twice the speed of previous models, DMA for faster cartridge reads and a full (56-simultaneous) color display. As a bonus, it was even able to colorize monochrome games, with good-to-mixed results. It was actually a direct response to Bandai's WonderSwan handheld system.
To soften the blow for late-adopters, most early Game Boy Color games were compatible with original Game Boy systems as indicated by the black cartridge color. As such, this category covers games that were released specifically for the Game Boy Color.
