Oh dear, I do believe I have the vapors. |
Kirikou is another uninspired platformer from Planet, based on the movie Kirikou and the Sorceress. Sigh. At least the hidden messages are interesting.
Crash Handler#
If the game ever crashes, it'll display this basic crash handler.

Hidden Messages#
Beginning at 0x67B0 are passwords that you can enter to find secret messages. Most of them are in (sometimes grammatically incorrect) French, regardless of what language you selected at the beginning. Interestingly, quite a few of them are themed around the anime series Di Gi Charat.
Similar messages can also be found in Gremlins: Unleashed, another Planet Interactive game.

MSX3
I'M SLAYERMAN FROM ABYSS GROUP ON MSX AND CODER OF THIS GAME. I WOULD LIKE TO THANK Mr. NISHI FROM ASCII Corp. JAPAN FOR COMMING TO THE TILBURG MSX MEETING APRIL 2001 (HOLLAND) TO PRESENT HIS PROJET FOR A NEW MSX COMPATIBLE COMPUTER. A COMPUTER IN ONE CHIP USING: ARM9, VIDEO PROCESSOR OF DREAM CAST, MSX2 HARDWARE EMULATOR, Z80, 4 USB PORT (v2.0 ), WIRELESS NETWORK INTERFACE, ETC... ONCE AGAIN, THANK YOU VERY MUCH Mr. NISHI AND ALSO THANKS TO THE TEAM OF THE MSX REVIVAL PROJECT. MSX POWER RULEZ ! THE GREETINGS FLY TO: Mr MAGOO, SPOOKY, DANDAN, MAVERICK, PHILIPPE BEZON, SQWEEKY, Dr. RAY, MUMBLY, POPOLON (also know as SLOW MOTION), HERVE GERARDIN (RV),JIPE. AND NOW THE EUROPEAN GREATS: MI-CHI, CLUB SD MESXES (MALLORCA), MOONSOFT (HI REMCO ;-), STEFAN BOER, HENRIK GILVAD,SEE YA ALL MY FREINDS!
As an amusing footnote, the "MSX computer in one chip" design mentioned eventually materialized as the 1ChipMSX5 years later, albeit as an FPGA implementation of the MSX2 standard. However the "MSX3" mentioned in the password, even after 20-plus years, still has yet to materialize, with the specification mentioned in the message being redesigned multiple times since.

THE CODERS OF THIS GAME HAD TO MADE THIS PROJECT USING MICROZOFT WINDOZE, AND THE FUCKING INSTABLITY OF EXPLORER. THEY ALSO HAD TO CODE ON COMPAK BULSHIT COMPUTERS. THIS COMBINATION OF HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE USED TO CRASH ALMOST TWICE EVERY DAY WITH A MAXIMUM NUMBER OF CRASH RECORDED AT 9 IN ONE DAY!!!

Ah, PUCHIKO-CHAN... Brightly twinkles on the top of AKIHABARA city... |
This character is Petit Charat, or Puchiko. The text is Japanese romaji, and references a famous (in Japan) Di Gi Charat advertising board tie-in with the Akihabara game shop GAMERS.

TSU MO JI DEMO DAMUURU. DEMO DO TSU RE JUURU E JU BUA... RABBI~EN~ROSE.
This character is Rabi~en~Rose aka Hikaru Usada from the Di Gi Charat series. The text is slightly modified lyrics from the song La vie en rose, the song the character is partly named after, written in pseudo-Japanese that, when read aloud, roughly sounds like the original French lyrics ("Tu me dis des mots d'amour, des mots de tous les jours, [et] je vois la vie en rose" / "You tell me words of love, everyday words, I see life in rose" ). Kind of a hilarious mistake when you consider some of these hidden messages are also in French.

Kirikou is not well, but he smokes joints. |
The way Kirikou's name is written (with a W) in French is a racist pronounciation of the "R" sound.

Welcome to. Welcome to. Welcome to BD Expo... with Marcy and Nuku. Nyo! |
The text in this is referencing the lyrics to the Di Gi Charat song "Welcome! 2000", albeit swapping parts of it in reference to something else.

Martial Benoit, that's me! Game's programmer. I'll see you soon on the Game Boy Advance... If only this game had some more serious designers and a less chaotic planning, it would've turned out better... |
