Sonic R (Sega Saturn)

Sonic R is the last Sonic title on the Sega Saturn and the first racing entry to be in 3D. Unlike Sonic Drift, everyone besides Eggman and Amy Rose are now running on foot in hopes of being the first one to obtain a chaos emerald.

While the game was heavily scrutinized throughout the late 2000s and 2010s for having a "obnoxious and out of place Eurobeat soundtrack", in recent years that opinion barely exists anymore as people nowadays adore its music.

Notably, this would be the last entry for awhile to feature the original designs of Sonic and his friends, as all of them would receive redesigns in the next title.

Oddities#

One of the Chaos Emeralds found in the game is colored orange. However, the ending screen in the game's credits which shows all 7 Chaos Emeralds has the orange Chaos Emerald colored light blue instead. This suggests that the light blue Chaos Emerald was changed to orange late in development.
