This page details one or more prototype versions of Sonic Forces.

Sonic Forces received a demo version for the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 on October 25th, 2017, that for some strange reason, was only exclusive to Japan. Even stranger is its incredibly strict time limit.

Instead of seeing the headquarters for the resistance, the demo version simply has black screen with a large version of the game's Japanese logo in the middle.

General Gameplay#

The demo has only three stages for the three default playable characters: Sonic has Lost Valley, Classic Sonic has the Egg Dragoon boss battle, and the Avatar has Spaceport. Each stage has a strict sixty second countdown timer, which displays in the HUD. As a result, it's difficult to finish Lost Valley and outright impossible to complete the other two, though the demo has some glitches that can get around this limitation. Once the timer expires, the level ends and a "thank you for playing" screen is displayed.

It's unknown why Sega made this demo exclusive to Japan, or why they decided to implement such a suffocating time limit. Interestingly, despite its regional exclusivity, the PS4 version of the demo is fully playable in English.
