This game was never completed and/or given a public release.
As a result of this, keep in mind that the developers might have used or deleted some of the content featured here, had the game actually been released.

To do:

  • More unused music and SFX.
  • Recent additions to the page are in need of a grammar/wording cleanup.

SegaSonic Bros. is an arcade puzzle game from 1992 that features official Sonic recolors long before the conception of DeviantArt. The game involves maneuvering blocks of Sonics on a board, with them turning into gems (similar to the ones in Columns) after they land. You score points by making gem nets around the gems.

The game went unreleased due to performing poorly during its location test in Japan, but the ROM was eventually found and dumped. It was made playable in MAME from Version 0.236, and was also unofficially ported to the Genesis (a second revision can be downloaded here).

(Note that the currently-available ROM is not the dump from the original PCB. It is a dump of a version that had been modified to work on a multi-game board then re-extracted to make it standalone again. As such, it is possible that there are a few differences from the original code in here.)

Unused Sprites#

The ROM includes sprites for Sonic's band members, a concept from the development of Sonic 1 that ended up not being used. The band is probably most notable for including Vector the Crocodile, who would eventually make his debut in Knuckles' Chaotix.

Sprite

Description

Sonic's band members cheering him on.

The band members giving a look of disappointment.

The band members being freed from their cage.

The band members leaping, probably related to the last sprite.

Speech bubbles, presumably from the band members.

Oddities#

  • Pressing Start on the Sega screen while it plays the chant results in the title screen loading while the tune plays.
