Unused Character and Vehicle Models#
|
|
To do: |
Found in the lego_data/chars folder on all platforms are unused character and vehicle folders. Although some models are used in the cutscenes, other models end up not being used at all. You can see them in-game by replacing existing models that share the same skeleton.
Boga#
![]() |
Boga, was to be used for a scrapped level where you chase Grievous on his wheel bike with Boga in Episode III and in the cutscene for said level. The model was ditched early in development. It is low res and lacks any real detail, made up of just a group of untextured grey bricks.
RepublicAtte#
Republic AT-TEs are supposed to spawn in Gunship Cavalry but for some reason they don't. This model might have also been used somewhere else in the game as in Episode III, Boga is shot down by an AT-TE during Order 66.
Jawa#
![]() |
A Jawa, this model of the Jawa is taller than the one seen in Lego Star Wars 2 due to using regular minifigure legs and uses a different torso texture.
Speeder_Land#
This model of the 1999 version of the Landspeeder was most likely going to show up in the A New Hope bonus level or somewhere else before being scrapped. This model shows up in the the GBA version.
ImperialOfficer#
PC Demo |
PC Final |
|---|---|
![]() |
![]() |
The original 2002 version of the Imperial Officer minifigure, similar in appearance to the Royal Guard. The most likely place for it to be used would be in A New Hope, but it is actually only placed in a cutscene for the removed Anakin's Flight level for unknown reasons. The sequel has the 2006 version of the Imperial Officer as an enemy and playable character. The model doesn't render properly in the final version of the game and has to be loaded in the demo to be fully seen.
Spaceman#
PC Demo |
PC Final |
|---|---|
![]() |
![]() |
An astronaut figure from the LEGO Launch Command theme from 1995. Most likely he would be added in as an Easter egg, but was decided against for budget and time constraints. This model doesn't render properly in the final version.
PadmePilot#
![]() |
Padmé (Pilot) was supposed to be used in the intro cutscene to the scrapped Bounty Hunter Pursuit level. she's supposed to have the same helmet as Anakin (Boy) but the model didn't get to that point before being scrapped. Her model is only compatible with Anakin (Boy)'s animations.
AnakinsSpeeder#
Anakin's Coruscant Speeder for the scrapped Bounty Hunter Pursuit level.
ZamWesell#
![]() |
Zam Wesell was most likely planned to be in this game, but removed later in development than Boga was. She would later become available as a playable character in The Complete Saga. In this game, however, she is by far the only character with almost everything left over. A subtle difference from her Complete Saga model is that her textures were photoscanned, so her mask looks darker and her Clawdite face texture looks a little blurry, the tubes on her helmet also use a different texture. It's very likely that Padmé (Pilot) was built over her as they share the same animation skeleton.
ZamsSpeeder#
Zam Wesell's Starspeeder for Bounty Hunter Pursuit.
Unused Icons#
In the files are unused icons for Padmé (Pilot) and Cordé from the opening of Attack of the Clones. Presumably from a cut opening from Bounty Hunter Pursuit before it was scrapped. These are present in all versions of the game.
Unused Levels#
|
|
To do: |
Speculation#
There are unused cutscenes that hint at 4 cut levels. 'Anakinsflight', a part of Episode I where Anakin would destroy the Droid Control Ship, was added The Complete Saga as a bonus level but is very different. 'BountyHunterPursuit' was a level where Anakin and Obi Wan would chase Zam Wesell through Coruscant. This level was added in Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga. 'Jango' a level assumed to be where Obi Wan would fight Jango Fett's Slave I over Geonosis in Episode II (though this is only speculation). And 'BogaChase' where Obi Wan would chase General Grievous on his wheel bike through Utapau on Boga. This is further evidenced in the root/levels folder where in Episode I Chapter_06 is missing, in Episode II Chapter_01 and Chapter_03 are missing, and in Episode III where Chapter_03 is missing.
Anakin's Flight#
Watch on YouTubeIn the Xbox version only, Anakin's Flight has data. It would have taken place between Retake Theed Palace and Darth Maul, as seen in the prototype. It is a rail shooter where you destroy enemy ships, enter the Droid Control Ship, destroy the power generator, then escape the ship. Some areas such as ANAKIN_B and ANAKIN_D lack warps that take players to the next one. ANAKIN_C cannot be completed because the door that is supposed to lead further into the section cannot be opened. ANAKIN_D crashes the game without modifications. The sections ANAKIN_F and H are unfinished versions of ANAKIN_B without enemies.
Test#
There is a folder in root/Levels called Test. In the Xbox version only, it has data. It is just a flat grey open surface with wonky collision. There is also an effect similar to the one used by the Darth Sidious hologram in Defense Of Kashyyyk in the middle of the level. This folder is also present in the GameCube version, but it only contains an empty folder.
Vader_D#
|
|
This needs some investigation. |
There is an unused segment of Episode III - Darth Vader titled Vader_D. Judging by the name, it would have been a fourth section in the level. It is a leftover from an earlier version of the level that would have played differently from the final, as showcased in Jon Burton's Extra Life stream of it, Sonic 3D: Director's Cut, and Crash Twinsanity February 2004. It has unfinished/untextured meshes near the start of the level, along with invisible collision that can be walked on. In the aforementioned stream, Burton revealed that the square at the end that you use the Force on was supposed to end the level.
Unused Cutscenes#
There are some cutscenes hidden in the lego_data/cut folder (where cutscene data is stored) from earlier points in development that are not used in the game. Most notably these go with the cut Zam Wessel level, Bounty Hunter Pursuit (ep2_bountyhunterpursuit_intro, and ep2_bountyhunterpursuit_outro) that was moved to The Complete Saga. But there are also references to 3 other cut levels. "ep1_anakinsflight_intro1", "ep1_anakinsflight_outro1", and "ep1_anakinsflight_outro2" refer to a cut level for Episode I where Anakin would destroy the Droid control ship. "ep2_jango_intro", it is not known what this would have been. "ep3_bogachase_intro" and "ep3_bogachase_outro" which refer to the cut level Boga Chase where Obi Wan would chase General Grievous through Utapau. The videos showcases all the unused cutscenes in full as well as how they're intended to look, with some only being in the Xbox version and for pre-existing levels.
Invasion of Naboo#
Ep1_InvasionOfNaboo_GunganA_Outro
An early version (possibly a test) of the midtro is present, where the characters do not have any animations, have different movement, and are in a different map.
Gungan_Outro
The entire cutscene is including a loop of moving ship with Qui-Gon , Obi-Wan, and Jar Jar inside. This cutscene was created at a time when the developers were planning animated status screens (this cutscene is also can be seen in the GameHut's "Extra Life" Stream).
Escape from Naboo#
Ep1_RescureTheQueen_Tank, Ep1_RescureTheQueen_Tank1, Ep1_RescureTheQueen_Tank2, Ep1_RescureTheQueen_Tank3.
A cut part of the intro is present showing tanks getting ready to fire.
rescue_intro1, rescue_intro2, rescue_intro3 Ep1_RescureTheQueen_Intro3.
Early versions of three parts of the intro are also present. They are mostly the same as the regular game, but with some minor changes.
Ep1_RescureTheQueen_End
An unused part of the outro is present showing the ship leaving to Coruscant.
Mos Espa Podrace#
Ep1_PodRace_Arrival
A cut part of the intro is present, seemingly an earlier version of Anakin's debut. Anakin is waiting on an unknown platform next to a ship as Qui-Gon, R2-D2, Jar Jar, and Padmé notice him. Anakin soon does a "follow me" gesture and moves left. Qui-Gon does a "questioning" pose followed by Padmé who does a "why not" pose. They promptly follow Anakin.
Return To Naboo#
Ep1_ReturnToNaboo_Intro
An intro for a cut level named "Return To Naboo" is present, which would likely have been between Mos Espa Podrace and Retake Theed Palace. Qui-Gon, Anakin, Panaka, R2-D2 and Obi-Wan wave goodbye to Jar Jar, who soon hits a wall just to immediately go into the Gungan army like he intended. This cutscene may be synchronized with the unused "Gungan_Intro2" location.
Retake Theed Palace#
ep1_retake_intro
An early version of the last part of the intro is present, with a different map but mostly similar to the regular game.
Ep1_Infliltration_Arrival
In addition, there is also a completely different version of the last part where the gang notices a control panel for R2-D2.
Ep1_Infliltration_Intro
There is a cut intro. Battle Droids are surrounding Royal Guards.
Ep1_Infliltration_DartMaul
An early version of the outro is present which was completely different. Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan notice Darth Maul, who gets out his lightsaber, and then does a "come if you dare" gesture.
Anakin's Flight#
Anakin's Flight has working cutscenes but they don't function properly anywhere in the final game, often resulting in odd outcomes.
Ep1_AnakinsFlight_Intro1
Anakin notices the Droid Control Ship. This is mostly the same as The Complete Saga, but without the last few seconds.
Ep1_AnakinsFlight_Outro1 Ep1_AnakinsFlight_Outro2
The outro uses two maps. The first part shows Anakin escaping the Droid Control Ship as it explodes, and the second part shows the Gungans emerging victorious when all of the Battle Droids die. There is also a variation of the last part named "Gungan" that has a different background and less characters in the background.
The Phantom Menace Ending#
episode1ending
An early version of the Episode 1 ending is present which has untextured trumpets, drums and drumsticks.
Bounty Hunter Pursuit#
ep2_BountyHunterPursuit_Intro
The intro cutscene for this level is just a placeholder "camera drop" cutscene.
ep2_BountyHunterPursuit_Outro
The background models are gone, only the characters' animations (or lack there of) remain along with using the Jedi Battle level has a base. Anakin and Obi-Wan find Zam dying, but Zam soon gets shot by Jango. Obi-Wan takes the claws that killed Zam. When put in the PC demo, Royal Guards are present in place of the audience members present in the version from The Complete Saga, but nothing else is there. This is the only unused cutscene from that level that had any work done on it.
Discovery on Kamino#
Kamino_Intro
An early version of the last part of the intro is present, where the map has minor changes and the alien guy is not present.
Jango/Asteroid Belt#
Jango_Intro
The unused cutscene for the Jango level is very similar, if not identical, to the one used towards the end of the Discovery on Kamino level before you fight the Slave 1, but, unedited, it directs to a level that doesn't exist. This is due to the level having just been a copy of the Slave 1 boss fight before being scrapped.
Droid Factory#
ep2_droidfactrory_intro
An early version of part of the intro is present, where Padmé is not present.
ep2_droidfactory_stamps
A cut midtro intended for the Droid Factory level that features a almost completely black screen with vague models that just barely appear against the background.
Boga Chase#
ep3_BogaChase_Intro ep3_BogaChase_Outro
Both of the Boga Chase cutscenes are the placeholder "camera drop" meaning no work was done on them.
General Grievous#
ep3_GeneralGrievous_Intro ep3_GeneralGrievous_Intro.cut_
An early version of the last part of the intro is present, but is mostly the same as the final except for Obi-Wan not being there.
Ruin of the Jedi#
ep3_RuinOfTheJedi_Intro2
There is an unused second part of the intro, where Yoda warns Obi-Wan not to mess with the guards, who then start attacking.
Unused Graphics#
Default Texture#
Particles#
These four images can be found in a Photoshop file named particle.psd. They appear in various hidden layers of the file, the 3rd image is a leftover from Finding Nemo, which was developed by Traveller's Tales.
Leftover Texture#
A stained glass texture featuring Dr. Neo Cortex. This is a leftover from Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex, which was also developed by Traveller's Tales. The texture also can be seen in Finding Nemo but brighter. The original texture is very dark, making it difficult to see details. The version above was modified to properly display the texture.

Leftover AI Scripts#

Download LegoStarWarsXboxUnusedAIScripts.zip File: LegoStarWarsXboxUnusedAIScripts.zip (info) |
AI scripts are present in both the GameCube release and the Xbox demo. This includes several revisions of the scripts for almost every level of the game and other duplicate copies.
Early Versions of Models#
Early Obi-Wan Kenobi Model#
Early (Dec. 22, 2004) |
Final |
|---|---|
|
|
The character folder containing Obi-Wan Kenobi has 2 earlier versions of his Padawan variant, one named "ObiWanKenobi_.hgp" in the regular folder and another called "ObiWanKenobi.hgp" in a subfolder titled "tpm" (short for The Phantom Menace). These were found on the PC version.
- ObiWanKenobi.hgp from the "tpm" folder is the earliest model, with a creation date of November 25, 2004 as opposed to the final model's creation date of February 28, 2005. Unfortunately, this model crashes the game upon being loaded.
- ObiWanKenobi_.hgp is slightly newer, with a creation date of December 22, 2004. Unlike the other model, this one loads in-game. Obi-Wan has a Padawan braid on his shirt and different facial structure, both of which are seen in every other release of the game except for PC. His cape's texture is staggeringly low resolution when compared to the final's, and it is one-sided so it is invisible from the front of Obi-Wan.
Unused Videos#
pixar.xmv#
A video file that can be only found in the Xbox demo. It is a leftover Pixar logo from the Finding Nemo game Traveller's Tales developed.
Cut R2-D2 Minigame#
In the levels directory of the Xbox version, there is a folder called R2ShieldRepair. The contents of the directory indicate that at some point, there were plans for an R2-D2 mini game based off of The Phantom Menace where R2 repaired the shields. Among the files is readme.txt which says:
See the config.txt file in lego\doc for the file format for the R2 mini game.
Besides readme.txt, there are three other files: a .NUX file, a .PTL file, and a .txt file which defines the settings for the game.
Despite being called R2ShieldRepair the level is simply a copy of the title screen from earlier builds, the "Star Wars" part of the logo is in the file but doesn't render.

A file that can only be found in the STUFF/TEXT folder on the Xbox version. This text bank comes from a very early version of the game, sporting a much emptier character list, early level names, mentions of the early Mos Espa Cantina hub, and the scrapped R2-D2 shield repair minigame. Episode 1 and 2 have eight levels listed in each hub, whereas they only have 6 and 5 respectively in the final game. Episode III doesn't have any levels at this point, but it is referred to by its original subtitle, "Rise Of The Empire". The scrapped levels listed in each episode are Return to Naboo and Anakin's Flight for The Phantom Menace and Bounty Hunter Pursuit, Asteroid Belt, and The Beasts for Attack of the Clones. Additionally, most of the levels are referred to with earlier names.

Japanese Remnants#
|
|
To do: |
The stuff folder in the NTSC-U release contains some files for Japanese language support, despite it not being a language option in the game. These include font information, localized game text, legal information, and two text files called j_list.txt and j_list_changes.txt.

A Greek translation was included in the files of some European copies, but goes unused.
Development Leftovers#
CVS Repository Remnants#
Download LegoStarWarsFontRepository.zip File: LegoStarWarsFontRepository.zip (info) |
Present only in the GameCube release of the game are fragments from a CVS repository that stored the different fonts that are used. Unfortunately, only a listing of entries and server information are included.
Debugging Information#
Download LegoStarWarshtmFiles.zip File: LegoStarWarshtmFiles.zip (info) |
Also present in the GameCube release is a series of htm files containing potentially important debugging information about the execution of certain files.
Logs#
|
File: LegoStarWarsLogs.zip (info) |
A series of logs can be found that all relate to converting some raw game assets into the game's typical file formats.
Batch Scripts#
Download LegoStarWarsBatchScripts.zip File: LegoStarWarsBatchScripts.zip (info) |
Some batch scripts are in the GameCube release. All of them seem to convert animations into a format that the game recognizes. Also, there is a similar script included that was used for The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, another game that Traveller's Tales was working on at the time.

Unused Jar Jar Voice Clip#
lego_data\Audio\_SoundFX\JARJAR\JJ_HowRude.wav A voice clip of Jar Jar ridiculing someone. This file is commented out in the final game's audio.cfg, as well as the PS2 prototype, but is present and accounted for here.

Several sound effects related to Lego bricks are double the sample rate in the PC demo and the PS2 prototype compared to the final game (22KHz vs 11KHz). These are found in lego_data\Audio\_SoundFX\LEGO in the demo and lego_data\Audio\_SoundFX\sfx.dat\audio\_soundfx\lego in the final game.
The sound effect that plays when the door at the beginning of the first level was also renamed from LegoDoorExpl to nega_doorexpl in the final game.

Additionally, some Lego sound effects are present which are absent in the final version.
PC#
- Obi-Wan Kenobi uses Anakin's eyebrow texture.
- Death and hurt sounds for Obi-Wan, Qui gon, Padmé and Anakin are higher pitch than intended.
PlayStation 2#
- A New Hope will send you to the credits even if you're on free play
PlayStation 2 (Greatest Hits)#
- The Traveller's Tales logo at the start shows the current version instead of the older version.
- A New Hope will send you to the credits even if you're on free play
Xbox#
- Death and hurt sounds for Obi-Wan, Qui gon, Padmé and Anakin are higher pitch than intended.
- A New Hope will send you to the credits even if you're on free play
- The slam attack incorrectly uses General Grievous's sound for every saber character
- Exit text is "Exit to Dexter's Diner? All progress made since your last save will be lost!" as opposed to "Exit Level?"
GameCube#
- The Traveller's Tales logo at the start shows the current version instead of the older version.
- Death and hurt sounds for Obi-Wan, Qui gon, Padmé and Anakin are higher pitch than intended.
- Character lighting stays how it was when the level was loaded instead of updating in real time, making it look like characters have shadows stuck to them.
- TC-14 in Negotiations doesn't walk back to her spawn point when you try to push her.
- The explosive barrels at the beggining of Count Dooku are already in position instead of having to be forced.
Unused Sound Effect#
A sound effect called GC_ForceFieldBrokenLP.vag was considered for use in the Episode II level Gunship Cavalry, but was commented out of the audio config. Unlike all other files that were commented out, this one was not deleted.
