Dogcheck#
|
|
To do: |
Every chapter of Deltarune includes a Dogcheck screen that appears when attempting to load into any rooms that aren't registered in the internal list of room IDs. For Chapter 2, any room ID from 20001 to 20277 is considered valid. If this seems like a lot, it's because it's actually every single room in the chapter, including internal rooms like menus, unused rooms, debug rooms, and humorously even the Dogcheck room itself. As a result, the only way Dogcheck can actually be triggered in this chapter is by trying to load a room that doesn't exist at all. Also note that from Chapter 2 onwards, debug mode now causes Dogcheck to be skipped, though that's not particularly useful in this chapter.
For compatibility with saves made in the demos, IDs 1-277 also map to the same rooms. When using these it's not possible to load a save into a room that comes directly before a room with a SAVE point in the internal list. It will place the player in the SAVE point room instead, due to a hack added to account for room IDs shifting in a Chapter 1 & 2 demo update.
Chapter 2's Dogcheck screen shows the Annoying Dog in a car (and later, swarms of them) driving back and forth across the screen as alarm_titlescreen plays.
Unused Cutscenes#
obj_example_cutscene_old#
An old version of the previous unused object, which consists of Susie walking up to Kris and going back before a blank text box appears, softlocking the game.
(Source: Original TCRF research)
obj_example_cutscene_b#
An alternate version of the previous unused objects that simply has the characters moving around. Unlike the previous objects, this one requires partners with you or else the game will crash. Watch on YouTube
(Source: Original TCRF research)
obj_ch2_scene26_powers_combined_old#
An early version of the thrash transformation cutscene. The final object uses the Berdly statue as a placeholder sprite, while this uses the Berdly statue in a toilet sprite.
(Source: Original TCRF research)
obj_ch2_fountain_sideb#
A very incomplete version of the Weird Route's Spamton NEO fight cutscene.

Unused Objects#
obj_berdlyb_tornado_old#
An early version of the tornado used in the Berdly battle.
(Source: Original TCRF research)
obj_sneo_wireheart_old#
An early version of Spamton NEO's heart.
(Source: Original TCRF research)
obj_sneo_wireheart_edit#
Another early version of Spamton NEO's heart, which likely has its code edited from obj_sneo_wireheart_old.
(Source: Original TCRF research)
obj_sneo_heartattack_old#
An even earlier version of Spamton NEO's heart, using the placeholder black and white sprites.
(Source: Original TCRF research)
obj_yheart_shot1#
Old version of the projectile used for yellow heart mode. Using it will make the majority of hittable objects in Spamton NEO fight (bombs, faces, etc.) untouchable as the bullet simply pass through those.
(Source: Original TCRF research)
obj_sprite_hunter#
Seems to be a cut debug tool used to find what objects use the specified sprite.
(Source: Original TCRF research)
obj_skewed_sprite_speciall#
An example object used to show how sprite deformation works. Also exist another version of this that goes by the name of obj_skewed_sprite_example that doesn't deform.

(Source: Original TCRF research)
obj_queenshield_enemy_old#
Two old versions of the Queen shields exists in the files. obj_queenshield_enemy_old shows shield durability with a transparent overlay in the size of the shield and breaks into pieces instead of poorly exploding.
Watch on YouTube
obj_queenshield_enemy_old2 is, by default, broken, and show a single big line stretched across the screen, but with some code tinkering it's possible to get it to a more pleasing state.

(Source: Original TCRF research)
obj_musicalbullet_controller_old#
An early version of the bullet controller used in the battle against Sweet Cap'n Cakes. The step code for this object has some very interesting variable names like tobymode, supertobymode, omegatobymode, activatedtobymode, and donkeykongshouldberemovedfromthedccinematicuniverse, which are all set to 1. The last variable in particular seems to be a callback to a similarly named variable in Undertale. These were likely left here for dataminers, as most of them aren't used anywhere in the code.
obj_sneo_phoneshooter#
An unused bullet for Spamton NEO which is a blue phone that descends from the top of the screen and begins rapidly shooting out small symbols (obj_sneo_phonebullet) towards the soul in a loose cone shape. The phone itself only has three HP, so shooting the phone three times while in the yellow soul mode will destroy the object.
(Source: Original TCRF research)
obj_sneo_phonebullet#
The bullets that obj_sneo_phoneshooter shoots out. Unlike obj_sneo_phoneshooter however, the color of these bullets have the same blue glow effect that the flying heads have, whereas the phone is just a static blue color.

Notes |
Can be obtained by fusing a ThornRing and a PureCrystal, but the PureCrystal is unobtainable, rendering this item effectively unused as well. Uses the same ability name (Trance) as the ThornRing, but this version of Trance uses a different ability icon and doesn't appear to be functional. Somewhat notably, its ID indicates that this was the first weapon added to the game after Chapter 1. Interestingly, this weapon was given a special attribute in Chapter 4: it, like the BlackShard, will gain a large damage buff when attacking the Titan or the Titan Spawn. |

Notes |
Its character comments are the same as those of the used item Mannequin, presumably as a placeholder. For some reason, they're left in English even in the Japanese strings, which do properly translate the corresponding comments for the Mannequin itself. |
It's set to reduce damage from attacks with element 1 by 50%, presumably corresponding to the "Elec/Holy" elements mentioned in the description. This element is only utilized by a single enemy within all of the first four chapters — the Zapper from Chapter 3 — making this accessory’s ability almost entirely useless. It is possible that this item is intended to be a counterpart to the used ShadowMantle, which appears in Chapter 3 and also protects against an elemental pair. |

Noelle's Item Dialogue#
Most consumables and equipment have a set of character-specific dialogue lines for when they're used/equipped by each character. Since Noelle only joins the party for a limited time, her comments on items that can only be obtained after she leaves go unused, as do those for items that are entirely unobtainable.

Can be fused with a ThornRing to create a TwistedSwd. While the item description appears to allude to Seam's collection of the used ShadowCrystal key items, the relationship between them and the PureCrystal is not definitively known. |

Light World Equipment#
As in Chapter 1, the Light World equipment can't be unequipped or examined, so the description strings for the new equipment items added in Chapter 2 cannot be seen. (Note that unlike the equipment from Chapter 1, these items don't have any use text defined.)

Unused Chests#
KEYGEN Chest#
If a chest is placed into room_dw_mansion_east_1f_secret (the room where the KEYGEN is used to unlock the basement of Queen's mansion), it will contain a single Dark Candy. Not too useful at this stage of the game.
(Source: localwhovian, Original TCRF research)
Duplicate Revive Dust Chest#
In room_dw_mansion_bridges (the first puzzle room in the Acid Tunnel of Love), the chest that's guarded by the Werewire is first set to contain a Revive Dust, before being set to instead contain... a Revive Dust.

Alternative Cutscenes#
Cards#
In the cutscene where Lancer and Rouxls become Key Items, there is code for them to turn into cards, which is never used.

Oddities#
Loox Wazowski#
The Loox NPC that appears in Hometown near Flower King, just like in Undertale, is referred to by the name "Mike Wazowski" internally, probably because their design bears a strong resemblance to the aforementioned Monsters Inc. character.
(Source: Original TCRF research)
Early Ambyu-Lance Name#
All of the enemies that you can fight in Chapter 2 have their English name used as their internal name, except for Ambyu-Lance, who is instead referred to as "omawaroid" internally, suggesting that their name was originally "Omawaroid".
(Source: Original TCRF research)
Bulking Up for Winter#
Charles, the hat-wearing mouse found in QC's Diner, is internally referred to as spr_npc_most_improved_1997. In Chapter 2, he receives a new sprite, spr_npc_most_improved_1997_ch2. The only difference between the two is that the Chapter 2 sprite is one (1) pixel taller, possibly referencing his dialogue in which he says he is bulking up for winter.
(Source: u/Sympathetic_Stranger on r/Deltarune)
Same Old DEVICE_CONTACT#
DEVICE_CONTACT, the object used for the opening sequence in Chapter 1, is still present in this chapter. However, it was oddly renamed to "DEVICE_CONTACT_old", despite no "new" version existing. The only difference from Chapter 1's object is that a new bug was introduced where the "YES" and "NO" options are swapped whenever they appear for choices, though they still function as if they were ordered correctly. This renamed version of the object would remain unused in every chapter following this one.
(Source: Original TCRF research)
DEVICE_FRIEND#
The ominously grinning face with pink and yellow eyes that can be seen for a split-second in the Mansion Basement has its object name as DEVICE_FRIEND and its sprite name as IMAGE_FRIEND, which is rather concerningly suspicious given that ALL-CAPS internal names are for the most part, only used for things that take place outside the context of the game's world.
Soamton#
The sprite for the phone in Spamton's shop is mistakenly referred to as spr_shop_soamton_phone. Whoops!
(Source: Original TCRF research)
Frozen Enemies in Queen's Mansion#
The lone pot and pot balance rooms of Queen's mansion have code for frozen enemy placement in the weird route, with the pot balance room specifically using a Swatchling hurt sprite, even though it isn't possible to freeze enemies in the mansion as by that point Noelle has already left your party.
Music#
BIG SHOT#
BIG SHOT, the song that plays when fighting Spamton NEO, is internally referred to as spamton_neo_mix_ex_wip.ogg. On a semi-related note, when the battle with the Sweet Cap'n Cakes is started, an audio stream for BIG SHOT is created for whatever reason, though it's never programmed to be played.
(Source: Original TCRF research)
Normal Noelle#
Lost Girl, Noelle's somber theme in her room in Queen's mansion, is referred to as noelle_normal.ogg, whereas Girl Next Door, which is more commonly used as Noelle's theme, is called noelle_school.ogg, which may imply that Lost Girl was or is meant to be Noelle's 'main' theme.
(Source: Original TCRF research)
Weird Route Music Names#
Unlike most Chapter 2 tracks, the music from the Weird Route is not found in the official Deltarune Chapter 2 soundtrack. Internally, they're called cybercity_alt.ogg (a longer, alternate version of WELCOME TO THE CITY that plays in the Cyber City when you're far enough into the route), d.ogg (plays when Noelle momentarily snaps out of it and realizes she's fighting Berdly), berdly_battle_heartbeat_true.ogg (second Berdly fight theme), and flashback_excerpt.ogg (plays during the cutscene with Noelle after she leaves Rudy's hospital room). The final aforementioned track would eventually see wider use in Chapter 3 and is included in the official Deltarune Chapter 3+4 soundtrack, titled Flashback (Excerpt).
(Source: Original TCRF research)
Muscle Sans#
Just like in Undertale, Sans' theme, sans., is referred to as muscle.ogg in the game files.
