Street Fighter II: Special Champion Edition was the first Street Fighter II port on the Genesis, thus starting a long tradition of breaking exclusives...
Also notable for being the first Sega Genesis/Mega Drive game to come in a 24-megabit cartridge, but also infamous for having low-quality voice clips that have often been thought to be because of the hardware's audio, but it turns out that it was a actually a bug that caused them to sound like this.

International versions changed Max being punched by Scott from black to white and alters his hair style, possibly due to fear of the original scene coming off as racist. It should be noted that this is the only instance of this censorship; all other international releases of the game and its ports leave Max's original skin color intact.

The name change meant the removal of the pretty fancy "PLUS" graphic in favor of a longer, slightly squished subtitle. Additionally, the Dash and Excite options were renamed to Champion and Hyper.
